New Love, New Life

Chapter 5
Felix watched as his charge walked across the stage to get her diploma. Four more weeks and they would be on their way home. He knew she was sad to be leaving her home, but was ready to begin her next journey.
She and Jane had cooked up something to make her leaving easy. As far as Charlie knew, Bella had won an all expenses paid trip to tour Italy, France and London. Jane had even set up a fake phone number, both of them knowing her father would check the legitimacy of the prize. It was on this trip that Bella would die, her plane crashing with no survivors. It was the best way to close out her human life.
Felix backed away from where he was and ran back to the Swan house. He picked up the few boxes Bella had packed and went to the post office. Bella would be celebrating with her father and, though she claimed not, he knew there was a party she had been invited to.
Bella had no plans to attend any parties. She had already said her goodbyes to those she spoke with at school and the LaPush pack hadn’t spoken to her since she announced her plans to move to Italy and be turned. Her mother was involved in her own life and other than emails, they hadn’t spoken in well over a month or more. Other than her father, there was nothing left for her in Forks.

“Demetri, I know Isabella is meant to be here in a few weeks, but this can’t be let go. These newborns are being left to run amok. Their sire is to be destroyed along with his changelings.” Aro ordered.
“I understand. I’ll leave right away.” Demetri nodded his head in respect and left to gather his team. He wanted to end this nonsense before his mate arrived.
Once on the plane which would take him to his destination, he looked at his guards and explained the situation. Once they arrived, things would go according to his plan or there would be more punishments doled out. Demetri didn’t allow for mistakes. These newborns and their rogue sire would be taken care of.

The last four weeks flew by and before Bella could blink she was saying goodbye to her father, promising to take care and write often. Boarding the Volturi jet, she sat down across from Felix and sighed.
“What’s wrong, Sorellina?”
“Little sister?”
Felix smiled, “That is what you are. You are joining the Volturi coven. There are only nine members of the coven itself. You, piccola, will be number ten. Now tell me.”
“Nothing is wrong per se. I’m gonna miss my dad, but I know this needs to happen. Honestly, I’m more ready for it now than I was when I was with Edward. I’m anxious to get to know my mate and begin my new life.”
Felix leaned forward, bracing his elbows on his knees and folded his hands together. “You and the Cullen boy were not mates, therefore when he deserted you, while it hurt you, you survived. If you had been true mates, it would have killed you both. Were something to happen to you, Demetri would not be long for this world and vice-versa, especially once you've been changed.”
“Hmm...”
They quieted, but it wasn’t an awkward silence. Felix left her alone with her thoughts and watched as she eventually succumbed to sleep. He knew everything was going to work out the way it was supposed to.
When the plane landed on the tarmac, Bella saw the limo which had been sent and wondered if Demetri would be inside. Her unspoken question was answered when the door opened and Jane stepped out. Bella smiled at the sight of her friend and walked quickly to her.
“Bella!” Jane smiled.
“Hey, Jane.”
Jane pulled Bella into a careful hug before pulling back. “Welcome home.”
“Thanks, it’s good to be back.”
“Shall we,” Jane pointed to the car and the pair piled in, while Felix climbed in front with Afton who was driving them back to the Citadel.
Felix smiled at the sound of the giggling girls in the back. He’d never heard Jane so carefree. Other than the sounds coming from the back of the car, the ride was silent.
Once they arrived at the Citadel, Felix ordered Bella’s bags taken to her rooms and then ushered her to the throne room.
“Ah, Isabella!” Aro smiled and welcomed her with a gentle hug.
“Welcome home, Piccola.” Marcus rose and walked to her, kissing both of her cheeks.
“Welcome, Figlia.” Caius smiled at her.
“Grazie, Padre.” Bella smiled, hugging Caius.
She was soon surrounded by Athendora and Sulpicia, even Alec joined in her welcome. Bella looked around and didn’t see the one face she was expecting. She turned and looked at Caius in confusion.
“I’m sorry, Cara, he was sent out on a mission a few weeks ago. We tried to delay it, but the trouble grew at a rapid rate and the risk of exposure was too great. We expected him back before your arrival, but Demetri won’t return until the job is done...correctly.”
“I understand.” She couldn’t hide the disappointment in her voice. “Could someone show me to my room? I would like to rest and unpack.”
“Of course.”
The Kings looked on as the disappointed young woman walked away. They could tell she was beginning to feel the mating pull, even as a human, and wished once again they hadn’t had to send their Head of Guard on the mission.
After Felix left her at her room, she pulled out her phone and sent Demetri a text.
I’m here now. Hurry home. -B
While she waited for him to respond, she looked around her room. She was stunned at the opulence. She had a sitting room, where her books had already been unpacked and placed on the shelves. The photos she had packed up sat on the mantle of the marble fireplace. Her bedroom boasted a king sized bed covered in a lavender duvet, with purple accent pillows. Her bathroom was huge, with a deep tub she couldn’t wait to relax in.
Walking to the doors of her private balcony, she opened them up and inhaled the fresh air. She was glad the weather wasn’t oppressive as it had been in Forks. She didn’t feel the humidity in Volterra as she had in Washington.
I’m sorry, Agapiménos. I will endeavor to get home to you soon. xD
Smiling to herself at his response, Bella opened her camera and snapped a selfie of her standing on her balcony. She wore a soft smile and attached it to a message stating she missed him. His response was immediate.
You look beautiful, Isabella. I’ll hold onto your image and finish my work faster knowing you’re waiting for me. xD
