Old Soul Imprint

Chapter 13:

Levi grinned at me, then kissed me tenderly before answering another knock at the door. Dad came in seconds later, only to get a big pat on the side from Billy, who I knew would never be able to keep it quiet. “Hey old man, guess who is now fully mated?”

I groaned, rolling my eyes at Billy, then smiled at my stuttering father, “Fully… meaning… as in… wow, that was quick. Are you okay with this Bells?”

I nodded, then hugged him tightly before promising, “I’m perfect, Dad, and it was my choice. I practically had to spell it out for Levi before he believed I was ready to take that step.”

His eyes wandered quickly toward my mate, who was actually blushing while running his fingers through his hair. Dad chuckled, “Alright, Bells. As long as you’re sure. Now, what’s for breakfast?”

Ready to change the subject myself, I offered as Dad sat at the table near Billy’s wheelchair, “Loaded skillets. Seeing as the girls have already jumped in to help, it shouldn’t be long before the first batch is ready. Talk fishing with the guys for a few minutes, and I’ll get you some coffee.”

I had just gotten back to work on breakfast when another knock sounded on the front door. I went to wipe my hands, but Levi patted my hip as he kissed my neck, “Stay. I can handle wrangling the crowd. Plus, I like seeing you completely at ease in the kitchen.”

In came both Jared and Paul, with Embry, Quil, and Jake seeming to run up the drive before Levi could close the door. I chuckled as Billy gave Jake a smile and a good-natured shake of his head. In reply, Jake just asked as he re-situated the duffle bag on his shoulder, “We aren’t late, are we? Dad, Rach called as we were walking out. I couldn’t just hang up on her. You know how she gets.”

Billy nodded, then offered, “Yeah, I know, Son. You’re right on time. Now all you kids go on up to the bunk room and drop your bags, then head to the game room until Bella calls you for breakfast. You five need to get to know each other well, as you will be each other’s backup out there… where it matters most.”

Jake grinned, “Bella’s cooking? Awesome!”

Sam agreed, then offered, “Bella, since you have the moms, I think I’ll go with the guys… otherwise, I’ll keep wanting to eat right out of the skillet, before you even have breakfast finished.”

I smacked his hand as he grabbed for a steak strip, then laughed, “Go… out of my kitchen. Git!”

That’s when Dad came over, kissed the top of my head, then asked, “You okay from last night? Everything went well at the meeting?”

I nodded, stirring the skillet, then offered, “Yeah. Sadly enough, it’s me that all these vamps are coming here for. I’ll explain more while we’re eating, but suffice it to say, I’m officially on lock-down with the rest of the rez residents. My nightmares were of what the vamps were planning. Now, at least, we can plan accordingly with the wolves and Cullens so that their plans don’t play out. Speaking of, the Cullen leader… Carlisle… said that Jasper would be the best suited to pose as a new recruit to the force. He knows the laws and was a Major in the army before he was turned, I guess. He looked like the quiet type, so I don’t think you’ll have any problems out of him.”

Dad hummed while rubbing his chin, then nodded, “Sounds plausible. I won’t be able to fake his academy letter or any previous experience, though, so that’ll be on them.”

Fifteen minutes later, as I was placing the last plate down on the table for Dad and the elders, I called, “Come gets plates, boys. Time to eat!” I chuckled as I heard several ‘uumphs’ and happy laughs, shaking my head at the six boys who would now be a constant presence in the house.

They lined up as they hit the kitchen area, so I handed each of them piled high plates before pointing to the barstools, “Sit. There is more if you find you are still hungry when your plates are empty. Eat, but pay attention. There’s a good bit we need to go through.”

With a “Yes, Ma’am” from each, including Sam, I gave Levi a kiss before digging into my own plate that sat on the counter.

He took a drink, cleared his throat, then said seriously, “Sam, Isabella, and I met with the Cullens at the boundary line last night. There are 3 in the coven who have extra abilities. Edward, who still seems to be the leader’s right hand, can read thoughts. He can only read the thoughts you are currently thinking, and only for a range of about 2 miles or so. Then there is a set of mates, Alice and Jasper. They are new additions that will be added to the treaty. Alice is a type of seer. From what I understand, she can see the path that a decision will lead to for a person, but if you change your mind, the path will change as well. This Jasper, though. He’s a formidable fighter, and his scars will have your hackles rising. His skin is littered with vampire bites and tear marks. From what was said, he can feel and influence emotions. If you’re anxious in public, he’ll know, and be able to calm you.”

I saw the 5 potentials letting that information sink in, then questions forming in their eyes. Jake wiped his mouth, then asked, “With this Jasper being so dangerous, is it safe for the Chief to be in such close contact with him? I didn’t mean to pry, but I heard Charlie saying something about a fake academy letter.”

I shook my head, then explained, “I see what you’re saying, Jake, but think about it. Dad isn’t going to have you guys protecting him while he’s out there doing his job in Forks. If this Jasper is such a badass in the supernatural world, I want him keeping Dad safe from any of these Italian jerks coming to town. Unfortunately, they are coming here for me, which means Dad will naturally be a target. I have some mental ability -that I don’t even know how to control- that allows me to protect myself and hopefully the pack, from mental abilities like Edward’s. The Italian’s that are coming have mental abilities… one has the ability to make you feel like you’re burning alive with pain, while the other literally makes you completely defenseless by cutting off all your senses.”

Paul whistled low, shook his head, then said seriously, “You’re on lockdown with the rest of the rez, right? ‘Cuz if they got their hands on you… made you into a bloodsucker like them… they’d be unstoppable.”

I nodded, “Exactly. On the other hand, the Cullen leader thinks that this thing inside me will protect all of you from the two witch twins. If they can’t use their powers to incapacitate you, the ones of you that find your inner wolf can help Sam and Levi finish this for good.”

Quil asked curiously, “But wouldn’t the mind reader have been able to tell last night?”

Levi shook his head, “He couldn’t read Isabella at all last night, but he could read me still. The elders think it has to do with the mutual marking that happened between Isabella and me after we returned. Me marking my mate would have me falling under her mental protection umbrella, but they believe that her marking me will extend that protection to my pack.”

Jared nodded, then said softly, “So you would need to meet with the Cullens again to test out the theory. Would you be taking any of us with you?”

Sue asked softly, “Are you second-guessing your decision, Jared?”

The young man in question looked confused for a split second before his eyes widened, “Oh, no, Miss Sue. I’m just thinking, that's all. I know it sounds weird, but I was restless all night in bed, almost like my wolf was ready… just waiting for me to find him.”

Paul gave Jared a knowing look, then confirmed, “Me too. Is that a good sign, Levi?”

My mate ran his fingers through his hair, then looked at all the young men sitting at the island. “As of the meeting last night, I can confirm that both Jared and Paul are showing signs of their emerging wolf. My next question pertains to Jake, Embry, and Quil. Have you been experiencing any sudden growth spurts, simmering anger out of nowhere, odd things happening with your senses, or high temperatures and queasy stomachs as if you’re getting sick?”

All three nodded, then Jake offered, “Quil had that stomach thing like a week ago, but he never actually got sick. Embry blew up at me over a running joke… it was nothing new, and we both always laugh at it… but he just went off for no reason. Plus there’s the hearing thing and spiking temperature for me. I really wasn’t intending to listen to your conversation, Chief. I just all of a sudden heard you even though I was talking to Paul in the game room.”

Dad nodded, “It’s alright, Kiddo. No harm done. It looks like each of you is showing signs, though Jared and Paul are closer to meeting their wolves.”

The other elders nodded their agreements, then Levi said, “To answer your question, Jared, yes. All of you will be going to the meeting. Not only will everyone involved need to be able to recognize each other, but exposure to them will be key to finding your individual wolves.”

Billy, who had been quiet until now, said seriously, “I would like to point out one thing. While you boys are finding your wolves, be very attentive to your anger levels. You will be living under the same roof as not only your pack leader, but his human mate. Anger is the biggest trigger, other than a vampire, for your wolf to emerge. If you find yourself becoming angry near Bella or the townspeople, back off to somewhere quiet. Run from the house into the forest. Just don’t be within a few feet of a human, or you WILL hurt them as your body shifts to that of your wolf form.”

Each of the boys nodded seriously, then Levi added, “Once you have completed your initial phasing, you will know the physical signs to watch out for. Sam and I will be teaching you ways to calm your tempers when they flair up, and they will flair. My last statement on that subject is this. You have all known Bella for as long as you can remember, but she is my mate. You will respect her as such, or you will not stay under this roof. I’d better not hear a single one of you disrespecting her, even if you’re so pissed off you can’t see straight.”

With a serious, “Yes, Sir” from all six, Levi knew he had made his point clear. It was only seconds later that his phone rang, Carlisle Cullen showing for the caller ID.
