Chapter 19:
Bella's POV
Sue ended up making more banana splits for everyone else when Emily showed up. Emily sat a large case down inside the door to the guest suite before she took the spot next to me on the couch. She smiled widely when she saw me drinking another shake, "I forgot to tell Sue I wanted you to have one of those. I’m glad she thought of it though. I’ll want you to drink another one as soon as possible, and we’ll see where you are after that."
I hummed as she looked at me, asking, “You look good… how do you feel?”
I smiled in reply, “Still hungry and a bit tired. Other than that I feel fine."
She smirked, “Okay, now how are you really feeling?”
I laughed, “Nervous, anxious, excited, and can we hurry up to the results?”
That brought a laugh out of everyone, but Emily said, "Better. I brought my portable kit with me, so let’s draw your blood. While it’s processing, we’ll listen to what the elders have to say."
Quil said my health came first, so I stood up, asking Emily, “Exam room?”
She smiled, “Is that what you’re making it?”
I agreed, so she offered, "I like that idea. Yes, to the exam room."
I grabbed Sam’s hand, practically dragging him to the exam room, which caused him to let out a deep chuckle, “Slow down, Angel, before you fall.”
He swooped me up into his arms bridal-style as I giggled, "I just want to get the blood draw done. You know I don’t like needles."
He nodded, sitting me on his lap on the bed as Emily closed the door, then brought her case to sit on the bed next to us. As she opened it to unpackage a new needle and vial, she said, "I’ll only need one vial, Bella. I’m going to have you go into the bathroom and use this."
She held up a home pregnancy test box, saying, "It may not show up on this yet, which is why I’m drawing the blood. I have the tools in this case to process the blood while we listen to the elders… but I thought we’d try."
I nodded, took the test from her, then went into the en suite bathroom.
I read the simple directions, then unwrapped the digital test from its foil pack. I did what I needed to, then put the lid on the stick before placing it flat on the counter. I finished and washed my hands, determinedly not looking at the stick, then placed the box with the other test under the sink. I opened the door, went directly to Sam, then he pulled me down onto his lap. “Easy as pie to use, but not easy to keep from looking while I washed my hands.”
Emily laughed as Sam nuzzled my neck, offering, "We should be able to look as soon as I’m done with your blood draw. Remember that if it shows a negative, it may not be right. It’s just a trial to see if the test will work as soon as your scent changes."
I nodded as I held out my arm, "Okay. But if it says I am?"
She smiled widely, "We’ll still do the blood test either way, but if the digital test comes up positive, it’s safe to say you are. My test is a little more complicated. It will tell me the exact amount of HCG, or pregnancy hormone, in your system. Since we’ll know exactly when you implanted, we’ll be able to go by that as well as your hormones to determine your due date."
I let out a breath of acknowledgment as she placed the tourniquet on my arm before opening an alcohol swab. She rubbed the area with it, then said, "Concentrate on Sam for me, Bella. Look at Sam."
I looked up into his eyes, almost tearing up at the sheer love he was emitting as he gazed at me. I lost myself in his eyes, then what felt like seconds later, Emily put a band-aid on my arm while saying, "All done, Bella. You ready to go look at that test?"
I nodded a bit hesitantly, so she said, "Why don’t I go get it and bring it to you. That way you can look at it together."
I thanked her, then nuzzled into Sam’s chest. I watched her tilt the blood vial back and forth as she went to the bathroom. She came back a few seconds later to hand me the test, “What does this tell you, Bella?”
I looked down at the test. All the air whooshed out of my lungs as I breathed, “Pregnant.”
I looked up at Sam, then practically tackled him to the bed while whispering against his lips, "Sam, we’re pregnant. They’re really in there and safe."
He let out a joyous laugh, kissing all over my face as he hugged me to him. Emily chuckled at the sight, "Alright, you two. Go join the others. I’ll get this blood processing, then be right out."
I grabbed the test off the bed before Sam carried me out to the great room. Everyone went silent when Sam set me down and wrapped his arms around me from behind. I saw that Paul and Jared were back, so I beamed at the room as I held up the test, “We’re pregnant!”
The whole room erupted in cheers, but Charlie asked in shock as he came to stand in front of me, "I’m gonna be a Papa? Really?"
I nodded, showing him the results, then he exclaimed to the room, "I’m gonna be a Papa! A Papa!"
When the cheers died down, Charlie looked at me worriedly, "And they’re alright? The little ones? You’re alright?"
I smiled, then looked at the room, "Everyone please sit. We have a lot to go over, as it seems the elders decided to leave a few things out of their legend before."
I leveled my gaze at Billy, Sue, and Quil, who all smiled sheepishly. Sam sat me back on his lap on the couch just as Emily came to sit next to us. Quil took the lead, saying, "We did leave a few things out, but it was not to deliberately hide them from you. We weren’t sure if all of the legend was true, or just parts. It seems as if all of it is coming true. Sue said she felt the magic all the way from the apartment."
Sue nodded, "It was amazingly strong, Quil. It woke Charlie and me out of a deep sleep. I immediately knew what happened, so I called you all to come."
Quil nodded as he said, "The magic was a combination of your dual marking, the extreme bond the two of you share, the intimacy you shared, and you being the two from the legend. All of those things combined should have made almost a cyclone around the two of you of your feelings for each other."
I nodded, offering, "It did. As soon as we connected, the air changed in the room. The more intense it got between us, the more the air around us swirled and seemed like a tornado. When we both bit at the same time, everything exploded, then I saw a bunch of images and flashes."
Quil smiled knowingly in response, “And what were they of?”
I looked up to Sam, then said, "Of the twins. Now and in the future. Two separate eggs, as Emily thought. When they finished implanting and our markings were complete, it was like the shockwave emanated out of me and through the room."
Quil smiled widely, "The magic was complete. Bella, have you seen images any other time?"
I nodded, then gasped as the realization hit me. I looked intently at the elders, saying, "Wait… the feelings you told everyone I would get. You forgot to mention that it wasn’t just feelings. That’s why they need to listen, isn’t it?"
Quil, Billy, and Sue all nodded, then Billy explained, "Yes, Bella. The images you get are real. Having them listen to you when you get those flashes... it could save a pack member’s life in the upcoming battle. It could also help protect you and the girls. Listen to your instincts, and pay attention to the flashes you get. When was the other time that you got flashes?"
I smiled as Sam hugged me closer. "The night of the barbecue… just before we came back outside and got lost in each other. I saw it all. Flashes of our life together. I knew then… I knew he was it for me, and I’d do anything to make that future real. I knew I truly loved him then."
Sam kissed my first mark, then asked, "What else are we missing? Is there more?"
Sue nodded, "You two were fated for each other before you were even born. When it became apparent that the legend was of the two of you, Quil reread the entire thing… twice. Sam, you will start aging again, albeit extremely slowly, once your twins are born. Both of you will age at an extremely slow rate. Sam, you’ll still be phasing, but your wolf will never age. He will actually gain strength and wisdom as your human self slowly ages, instead of weakening."
Quil took over then, saying, "You are needed, not only as the chief of our tribe, but as the alpha of the pack. You and Bella will lead both. Bella, you have Quileute magic in your very soul. Charlie told me the other night that you were conceived on Quileute land, on the night of the meteor shower. That was a very magical night for the tribe, but only one baby was conceived that night. You. Since we didn’t know until the other night, we thought the legend was fake… a tale. It stated that the chosen would be conceived that night and not of Quileute blood, but none of the Forks residents were on our land that night… or so we thought. Since there were no wolves at the time, scents couldn’t be tracked, but things that Charlie told me could have only been seen from a certain view from the different cliffs. I happened to stop at one and look out for a few minutes, never knowing Charlie and Renee were a few cliffs away."
I smiled at Charlie, then the implications of what they said hit me. I asked hesitantly, "So that night, the magic made me Sam’s soul mate… and I have magic in me still? Am I dangerous? Will I hurt anyone? Will the babies be okay?"
Billy chuckled, "You won’t hurt anyone. The magic will only make itself known at the right times, Bella. The twins will be fine, and they will have magic in them, also. It is protective magic, not a destructive one. Tell me, did any of the powers the Cullens have work on you?"
I nodded, "Alice, the little one, could see my future based on my decisions… and the empath, Jasper… said that positive or calming emotions worked when he sent them to me. I don’t know if he tried anything negative, but if he did, it didn’t work. Edward, his power didn’t work at all. He could hear everyone’s thoughts for quite a distance, but absolutely nothing from me. I have a feeling his power was more than that, though. I don’t know what, but I never wanted him in my head."
Quil and Billy both smiled, then Sue explained, "It was the magic protecting you. His true power must have been destructive, so the magic protected you from it."
I hummed, then asked, “Anything else?”
Quil shook his head, "Just listen to your instincts, and please rest. Emily will be taking care of you and the twins from now on, as a normal OB would see the differences."
I nodded, “I figured that, and I like Emily being the one to take care of us.”
Emily patted my hand, then said, "I’m going to check on the blood test. Eat something more. Get another shake in you. Stay off those feet as much as possible. Sue? Double the calorie powder for the next 48 hours in her shakes, please."
Sue nodded and left the room with the rolling cart full of empty bowls. Emily disappeared into the exam room just as Charlie sat down next to me. He smiled as he took my hand, so I grinned, “What’s up, Papa?”
He beamed at me, asking, “So everything’s good?”
I nodded, "Everything’s great. I’m sure Emily will want to do a scan sometime within the next few weeks, but I feel wonderful right now."
He smiled, "That’s good. You’ll let me know if I can do anything?"
I nodded as I pulled him to me for a hug, "I promise, Daddy… but right now this is all I need. Just a hug from you."
He chuckled softly, “That I can do, Princess, anytime you need.” He rubbed my back for a minute, just holding me, until Sue came back in with a large plate of thick fudge and cookies, along with my next shake.
I smiled, releasing Charlie as Sue set the plate down on the coffee table, then said while she handed me my shake, "Try this one. Tell me what you think."
I took a long sip, moaning as the taste registered, "So damn good. You used Andes, didn’t you?"
She grinned proudly, so I said, "I think this is my favorite so far. You used mint chocolate chip ice cream, too. God, this is awesome. Sam, taste this."
He took a sip of my offered shake, then moaned, "Wow, that is really good. We should make a big batch of those for everyone when we do the movie night."
I beamed at him, but Emily came back in smiling, “Did I hear something about a movie night?”
I chuckled, nodded, then explained, "Yeah, you’re more than welcome. I had thought of having the pack and imprints stay over one night this coming weekend, to do a movie and hang out night. Would you like to join in?"
She agreed happily, "Sure, that sounds like fun. Here, these are for you. The results confirmed your pregnancy, and these, Miss Bella, are your prenatal vitamins. One a day. If you start having morning sickness, try to take it at a time you aren’t sick. If you take one now, we’ll be able to tell how compatible they are with you and the babies. If you throw it back up, I’ll know to get you a different type."
I nodded as I opened the bottle. I took one of the horse-sized pills with a long sip of my shake, then Emily said, "We should know in about 30 minutes. You can split them in half to make them go down easier if it helps."
With an agreement, I took a piece of rich fudge off the plate, noticing that no one else was eating anything, "Well, come on, guys. Don’t make me eat alone. Grab something."
Leah and Kim each took a cookie, while Paul and Jared took a piece of fudge. I looked at Sam, then took two more pieces of fudge off the plate, handing him one. He smiled widely, “You’re really hungry still, aren’t you, Angel?”
I nodded as I chewed a large bite, then Charlie offered, "I think I saw a few pieces of pizza left in the fridge. Would you like me to heat them up, Bells?"
I looked at my fudge, the plate, then finally Charlie before saying, "Please? I am really hungry still."
He nodded, then kissed my forehead before heading towards the kitchen. He called out a minute later, "There are four large pieces. How much do you want me to heat?"
I laughed, then Sam and I both said at the same time, “All of it.”
Emily chuckled while Leah said, "Looks like your appetite is already boosted. Do you like bananas foster stuffed french toast? I saw a recipe for it the other day and figured I could make it for breakfast. The recipe is easy to multiply."
I agreed as I chewed the last of my fudge, then said, "Love it. I’ll help prepare what I can while sitting at the bar. I can do that, right, Emily?"
She replied easily, "Yes. You’re sitting, not on your feet."
She tried to stifle a yawn, but I caught enough to notice it, saying, “Leah, can you change the sheets for me on the bed in the nursery?”
She nodded, so I looked at Emily, "You don’t need to be driving with how tired you are. As soon as Leah is done, you can take the room right across from mine for the rest of the night. You can have breakfast with us before you start your day."
She smiled, "Thanks, Bella. I really wasn’t looking forward to driving back home." She yawned again, just as Leah disappeared out of the room.
Charlie came back in after another minute, handing me the plate of piled high pizza. I smiled, “Thanks, Dad.”
I practically inhaled the first and second pieces, then ate a little more civilized after that. Charlie looked at me like I was an alien, so I blushed, “Sorry, but I’m really hungry… and this tastes so good.”
I ended up eating all of the third piece as well as a few cookies before Leah came back down. "All set, Doc. There are fresh sheets, plus I put a fresh towel and washcloth on the bathroom counter in case you want a shower. Bella has a bunch of stuff she was going to donate to the center that you can wade through for pajamas and tomorrow’s clothes. I set them in the office upstairs to make sure they wouldn’t be in your way."
Emily nodded, "Thanks again… for everything. Goodnight, everyone… and Bella?"
I looked her way as she stood, then she said, "Try to eat until you’re full. The magic used a lot of your energy, so your body is trying to refuel. Listen to your body and your instincts, but please make sure you finish that shake soon."
I nodded, "I will. Sleep well. There should be an alarm in the room if you need to be up at a certain time." She smiled, then patted my shoulder before walking out of the room.
I ended up finishing the last piece of pizza, my shake, two more cookies, and three more pieces of fudge before I felt full. Leah and Kim just looked at me with happy smiles. Jared came over after I was done, kissed the top of my head, then said, “Congratulations, you two. I gotta get Kim home and get some sleep before school. See you after?"
I nodded just as Kim hugged me softly. They both said goodnight to Sam and the rest, then Quil came over with Billy.
I stood to hug Quil so he wouldn’t need to bend, but he placed his hand reverently on my stomach. He closed his eyes, said something in Quileute, then smiled and hugged me gently, "Goodnight, Sweet Bella. I will stop by in a few days to see how you are."
I nodded, “Goodnight, Quil. Get some rest."
I released him, then bent to hug Billy as Quil said goodnight to Sam. He beamed at me, "Night, Bella. Congratulations. I'm sure I'll see you soon."
I told him he could count on it, then Billy wheeled himself over to Sam.
They shook hands and talked for a minute as I sat back down on the couch. Sue sat next to me a bit tiredly. I leaned into her, saying softly, "Thanks for everything tonight, Sue. I don’t think I could have done all of it by myself. My head’s still trying to wrap around the fact that I have two little ones growing inside me."
She nodded as she rubbed my arm, hugging me to her in the process, then asked, “Have you talked to your mom lately?”
I shook my head, "She stopped responding to my emails and phone calls. I knew it was going to happen, but it still stings a bit. I’m just going to leave her an email and tell her that we moved to the rez. If she wants to be a part of my life, it’ll be up to her after that."
Sue nodded, “I know I’m not your mom, Honey, but I’m always here for you... even if it’s just to talk.”
I smiled at her, kissed her cheek, then whispered, "Thanks, that means a lot. Now go get that man of yours to bed. You both need some rest. I’ve kept everyone up way too late."
She nodded, "It was for a really good cause, though, Dear. I wouldn’t have wanted to miss it for the world. You get some rest too, alright?"
She released me, so I said, "In just a few minutes. I want to say goodnight to Leah and Paul before we go up."
She agreed as Charlie placed a kiss on the top of my head, then knelt down in front of me. He looked down at my stomach, smiled widely, then whispered, “A Grandpa.”
I nodded, smiling tiredly, so he said, "I’ll see you in the morning, Princess. Get some sleep, so you can stay healthy for my grandbabies." I promised him I would, then he and Sue went towards the side door hand-in-hand.
Leah came to sit down next to me as Paul kissed the top of my head. "I’m heading out to patrol. Leave the side door open, and I’ll lock up when I get back, alright?"
Sam sat down in his spot, saying, “Sure thing, Paul. Stay safe. I'll hear you when you come back in, so no need to knock on the door or anything."
He nodded, "Naw, I would have just whispered or something. I wouldn’t have knocked and risked waking Bella. Little Mama needs all the sleep she can get now."
I chuckled at his nickname, “Now why do I think that nickname is going to stick with the four of you?”
Leah chuckled, patting my full stomach, "Because it’s cute… and it fits. You’re so tiny."
I laughed, "Not for long, if these two and the doc have anything to say about it. I’ll look like a hot air balloon in no time."
Paul and Leah laughed, but Sam nuzzled my neck, “I can’t wait to see you round with our twins.”
I chuckled, “It won’t be as sexy when I can’t move on my own and my belly gets in the way of you holding me, Sam.”
He shook his head, "I can carry you... plus I can hold you and our twins from behind. Nothing different than now."
I smiled, “You always know the right thing to say, don’t you?”
Leah chuckled, "They do, don’t they? I can never argue with logic like that either."
Paul laughed, kissed Leah, then said, "Gotta go, Babe. Sam, Bella… I’ll see you in the morning."
I nodded, "Stay safe, Paul. Goodnight."
He kissed Leah one more time, they whispered their love for each other, then Paul made his way towards the side door while Leah walked to the front.
While Leah was locking the front door, I whispered to Sam, “What did Quil say in Quileute?”
He smiled at me, then touched my stomach, “He was blessing the pregnancy, Sweetheart.”
I smiled as Leah came back in and said, "I’m gonna head up to bed now, guys. The front door’s locked."
I nodded, "So are we. We’ll go up with you. I just need to turn out some lights."
Sam kissed me lightly, "Why don’t you and Leah head up. I’ll grab the lights and a few bottles of water, then meet you upstairs in a minute."
I nodded, taking Leah’s outstretched hand with a chuckle, “Don’t need help getting up off the couch just yet, Leah, but thanks.”
She laughed as we headed up the stairs, then hugged me when we got to the top landing, whispering, "Congratulations. I’m so happy for you and Sam, Bella. Get some sleep, and I’ll see you in the morning."
I nodded into the hug, then whispered, "Night, Hun. Thanks. Hey, remind me in the morning to look up that site, so I don’t forget."
She nodded, “You can do that while I cook, then call the principal to schedule the test.”
I smiled as she retreated to her and Paul’s room, while I went to mine and Sam’s. No sooner did I get the covers pulled back, than Sam came in smiling. He stripped us out of our clothes, then laid me gently on the bed before placing his head on my stomach. He whispered softly as I ran my fingers through his hair, "Sleep, my little ones. Be good to Mama, because soon you’re going be strong. We don’t want to hurt her. I love you my little ones."
He kissed under my navel twice, then placed his head back on my stomach for a few minutes.
When I yawned softly, Sam crawled up the bed, whispering, "Come, my tired Angel. Let me hold you as we fall asleep."
I yawned again, then curled up into his side as I placed one arm around his waist, with my leg situated between both of his. We both sighed at the contact, but after just a minute or two, I felt uncomfortable. He chuckled softly, "Let’s try something else. Roll onto your other side for me, Sweetheart."
I rolled over, then Sam turned onto his side while pulling me gently back to him. He placed his hand over my lower stomach and traced light patterns, causing me to hum in content. With a light kiss to my mark, he whispered, “All better?”
I nodded, then yawned as I said, “Love you.”
He replied into my neck, "As I love you, Isabella. Sweet dreams."
I fell asleep quickly to the feel of Sam’s breath against my neck, along with his fingers dancing lightly on my stomach.
