The Consequences of Messing With A Whitlock
It was the beginning of summer vacation before senior year. The James incident was now behind us... mostly. Jasper had to go full-fledged Major on Edward in the ballet studio, to get him off of me in the haze of his blood lust. I had lost so much blood between the cut to my femoral artery and Edward's blood lust taking over, that I had to have almost a full human body's worth of blood transfusions. I was in the hospital for nearly a month before they allowed me to be released, under the condition that I was in Carlisle's care, since he was my main doctor anyway.
Charlie was just so happy that I was coming back to Forks, that he agreed quickly to the condition of me living with the Cullens. The problem was, though I cared about Edward, I hadn't been able to get rid of the lingering feeling that we weren't mates. Oh, he still wanted to be with me, even told me he loved me, but it just didn't sit right anymore. His dazzling didn't even have the same effect on me as it once had. He didn't know that I saw Major rip him off of me, but I asked Jasper about it one morning when the family was hunting.
Surprisingly, Phoenix was a turning point in everyone trusting Jasper around me, which I was thankful for, because I really wanted to get to know him. He was my best friend's mate... her eternal love... I felt like I should be able to get to know the love of my best friend's eternity. He looked so happy and relieved when he found out I really did want to get to know him, that we ended up learning out a lot about each other. He became a big part of my life, so I decided to ask him to tell me the truth about the ballet studio.
We both sat down in his study as he asked, "Alright, Sugar. What's on that pretty li'l mind?" I shook my head, "After a certain point in Phoenix, things get fuzzy. I think I remember you with black eyes trying to save me... pulling Edward off me. He drank too much, didn't he? He would've drained me, wouldn't he?" Jasper nodded sadly, "Yeah, Sugar. It wasn’t pretty. His blood lust took control just as the last traces of venom were clear from your system... which was only four swallows in. You've given blood for Carlisle to have it in stock for emergencies, so ya can do the math." I let out a shuddered breath before whispering, "You weren't thirsty, though, so why were your eyes black?"
Jasper chuckled, then sighed as he took my hand, "I knew this conversation was comin’ sometime soon. Ya mean so much to this family, Bella. Even though I hadn't gotten to know ya at that point, I felt how the others all feel about ya... especially my Ali. Ya know how vampires all have two sides... the more human side and the darker side... the beast?" I nodded, then he continued, "My beast has a name with one helluva reputation, Sug, and it takes a lot to bring him out. With my past -that I'll explain after this- my beast is darker than most, which is how he got the reputation. I guess ya could sum it up by sayin' he's more dominant than others… extremely protective of what's his." I furrowed my eyebrows, then realisation hit, "Your beast thought I was family, special to your mate, therefore needed to be protected at all costs. What does he go by... what's your beast's name, I mean?"
With that, Jasper nodded while suggesting I get comfortable, then he told me all about the Major, or God of War. He explained to me about his past, how he was forced to turn Peter and Charlotte, then how he couldn't bare to hurt either one of them. He risked being killed himself when he told them to run, because it was time for Charlotte to be culled with the other yearlings. He told me about how they came back for him 5 years later, explaining that there was more out there for them, how they didn't have to fight and kill 24/7. They wandered together peacefully for another 10 years before Charlotte met her mate, then he and Peter wandered together for another 40 before Peter told him it was time for him to go north... that he would find what he needed to settle himself. That happened to be Alice. Of course, Jasper has been with her ever since.
They still went to visit Peter once a year, since he always held parties for the crew, which was comprised of escapees Jasper had trained in Maria's army. The way Jasper explained it, they all kept each other in the know if they heard something about Maria searching for her lost treasures, those who had escaped from her evil clutches. Alice always had an eye on Maria's movements, plus apparently, Peter had a know-shit meter that kept them out of trouble. Jasper even showed me the tattoo on the back of his neck before explaining the meaning behind it. It was a sword with his human surname of Whitlock down the blade.
I got lost in Jasper's story, eager to know more about the crew, as well as what everyone was like, until Edward scowled as he interrupted Jasper, "Time for Bella to head home, Jasper. She was supposed to be going to Charlie's for a few days. It's getting late, and I'm supposed to volunteer at the hospital during Carlisle's shift in a bit."
Alice bounced in the room just then with a big smile, "Nope. I'm taking Bella home later. We have all afternoon to shop. Since Charlie's having dinner down on the reservation with Sue, I plan to take advantage of this time." I chuckled as I nodded my head, but Edward grumbled, "I don't see why she needs another shopping trip, Alice, but fine. Just don't have her home too late. Make sure you call me when you drop her off." He kissed me on the forehead, then left the room without another word.
Gee, so nice to know I'm loved. Care to tell me you love me? That you'll call me before bed? Or speak directly to me at all, maybe? So much for being mates. Not even a peck to my lips this time. Does he know I asked Jasper? Does he know about me thinking we aren't mates?
As soon as he was out the door, Alice breathed almost inaudibly in my ear, "He doesn't know what you asked Jasper, but your path is leading you to your true mate now. It's time to get you out of all this stuffy shit Edward likes you wearing. Come on. Let's you, me, and Jazz go have some fun." I smiled up at her, then she said, "Jazz, we need you to be bag boy. Please." After a split second of her giving him a silent look, Jasper's eyes lit up. He said without a second to waste, "Well, alright then. Let me just get the keys to the truck, so we can go."
Once we were safely on the highway, Alice turned in her seat, saying, "I'm so glad you got to talk to Jasper today, Bella. Did you have a good one?" I smiled at Jasper, who was looking at me with a matching smile in the rear view mirror, "Sure did. Jazz? Can you tell me more about the crew, Peter, and Charlotte? You said you have parties every year, but I don't understand. It's not like you can have a barbecue and get drunk." They both cracked up at that comment, then Jasper said, "The Cullens are a little more... reserved, I guess would be the polite term... than most vampires, Sugar. We can actually smoke and drink, but the alcohol doesn't affect us at the same rate as a human. We can only drink it straight, no mixers, and we need a shit-ton more of it to get drunk." I chuckled shaking my head, then said, "Damn, that must be quite a sight... a drunk vampire."
They both looked at each other, then Alice broke out in a grin that was cheshire cat worthy. She looked back to me, then offered happily, "Peter's next party is both a housewarming and crew get together. He finally finished his new house, so he set the next party up for two weeks from now. We were actually thinking about going out a week early, then staying for a bit. The Cullens are getting a bit stuffier than we can handle after Phoenix. Would you like to go? I can set everything up with Charlie. You'll just have to tell him what we rehearse." I shook my head, "You guys don't need me barging in on your time. Does Peter even know about me? If so, he definitely won't want a human crashing his vampire party."
Just then the phone rang. Jasper grinned at the caller ID as he flipped it open, "Hey, Fucker. We were just talkin' about ya.... yeah, hold on." He pressed a button on his phone, then said, "Alright, Pete. You're on speaker." I heard the sexiest goddamn voice say after only a split second, "Thanks, Jazz. Now, Sweet Pea? Don't ya worry none about me not wantin' ya here. Jazz and Ali have been tellin' me all about ya for months on end. It'll be good to finally meetcha. You're more than welcome, and I expect ya to make yourself at home here. I'll be makin' a grocery run as soon as Ali sends me your favorite recipes. I've got a case of Cabo Wabo Uno, one of Johnny Walker Blue Label, and one of Appleton Estate 30 year with your name on it... oh, your smokes are in the chest freezer. Gotcha covered, Cupcake, so doncha fret none. Ya just get out of those stuffy ass clothes I know ya hate. Let Ali work her magic, then come see me soon."
Jasper and Alice were both looking at me with shocked expressions when I said, "Peter? I think I like your know-shit meter. Since you're already stocked up, I take it Charlie goes for it?" He let out a sexy chuckle, then replied, "Yep. He'll be needin' to go to Seattle to help on a string of murders, so he'll jump at the chance of ya not bein' anywhere near Washington for the summer. By the way, Sweet Pea... go for it. Get it redone, because it's fuck-ton sexy."
I choked out a laugh, then coughed out, "Whatever, Peter. Thanks for the info. I guess I'll see you next week." He chuckled, then talked to Ali and Jazz for a minute about the crew knowing not to show up unless they were sloshing full, because a special human was coming to the party.
When they hung up, Alice turned to me with a smirk. "What, Little Miss, are we getting redone?" I shook my head with a chuckle, "My navel piercing. He's a damn flirt, Jazz. You forgot to mention that little tidbit." Jasper laughed outright, "You've got a lot of sassy in ya, Sugar, so I know ya can handle him just fine. Are ya gonna get it done? I can feel that ya wanna, but..." I nodded, "Yeah. I think I am. I'm tired of letting Edward's wants dictate what I do, say, wear... oh hell... just everything." Jasper beamed at me, "It's about damn time. I always knew there was more to ya, from what Ali said about her first visions of ya. I say we get ya back to the 'real you' this afternoon... whatta ya think?" I grinned, then sighed, "God, that sounds perfect."
Ten minutes later, we were at the mall. Alice took me right to one of my favorite stores. When she actually started pulling my type of clothing from the racks, handing them to Jasper, my eyes widened before I whisper-yelled, "Holy shit, Ali! You're fucking serious?" She giggled, "Of course I was serious, Baby Girl. Now come on, start helping me pick stuff out."
I squealed as I hugged her to me, "I really love you, Ali. Jasper, you have the best girl in the world. Damn, this'll actually be a fun shopping trip." Jasper chuckled, "I hope so, Sugar, because Ali's plannin' on tossin' every bit of clothin' she's ever bought ya once we're done. You're gettin' the works today, so I want no complainin' about money. If ya want it, get it. Don't go lookin' at prices, and doncha worry about how much ya buy at each store. Got me?" I nodded excitedly as I kissed his cheek, "I promise, Jazz. It'll be so nice getting things I actually like, that I'll probably go crazy, anyway." He chuckled as Alice pulled me over to the rack she was at.
Five minutes later, Ali said, "Bella, Jasper's going to take those clothes back to the fitting room for you. I'll pull a few more things, then we'll be set from this store. I'll be there in just a second to see the first pick." I nodded, then followed Jasper back to an open fitting room. Once he hung up the clothes, he kissed the top of my head, "I'm glad I get to feel your excitement right now, Sug. I can't wait to get this first glimpse of the real you. Now hurry and let us see." I beamed up at him, then shooed him out of the room so I could close the door.
I came out of the fitting room in the first outfit, which was a curve-hugging Love and Roses tattoo tee that just covered my belly button, along with a distressed pair of ultra low-rise thin leg jeans. Alice's eyes widened at the same time her grin did, which made Jasper turn to look. He gawked at me for a whole minute before choking out, "Holy shit, Sugar. Where'd the hella-curves come from?" I giggled, then mock scolded, "Why, Jasper Whitlock, where'd the mouth come from? I've always had them. Edward just wants the proper virginal lady with sky-high morals and no physical presence. It's about time Forks sees the real me, don't you think?"
I twirled in a circle for good measure, popping my hip when I faced them again, which caused Jasper to smirk, "I think, Sugar... I definitely do. I think the real you is kick ass, I can't wait to see what else ya pick." Needless to say, they both thought I should get everything we picked out, so Jasper told Alice to take me on to the next store, and he would meet us there. He paid for the items, then rushed them out to the truck before coming to meet us.
