The Consequences of Messing With A Whitlock
by: Wizardtho

Chapter 17:

PPOV

It took nearly an hour of hearin’ fightin’ on the grounds before I finally started hearin’ the one sound I was waitin’ for… the metal screechin’ of a vampire bein’ torn apart. Alice and I both relaxed slightly at the sound, knowin’ that since the fightin’ had stopped completely, Edward was caught.

Several minutes later, I heard Major say seriously from the backyard, “Captain!”

I looked to Alice, “Do not leave her side for even a millisecond.”

With her promise, I headed out to the private master balcony, then jumped down to the patio level before meetin’ Major at the tree line. He asked right away, “Where do you want the trash?”

At his feet were 5 separate metal cages. I knew he got them from my little shed full of goodies. The first held Edward’s torso, the second held his arms, the third held his legs, the fourth held his hands and feet, and Major was tappin’ his booted foot on the top of the final cage carryin’ Edward’s head.

I sucked a bit of air through my teeth before sayin’, “Seein’ as Isabella is currently in the process of becomin’ a vampire, I say let’s let her have the first crack at his torture. Until then, all his lovely cages can be put in the seasonal shed with the manure I got from the farmer up the road. Looks like gettin’ too much for my mate’s plants has an upside.”

Major nodded seriously, “Cages stay locked and the shed now gets a guard detail. Tell Alice I’ll be in soon.”

I reached the bedroom again in seconds and was happy to find Alice sittin’ next to my mate on the bed, hummin’ softly to her.

She looked up at me with a smile as I neared the bed, then her hum cut off as she offered, “Bella will appreciate you waiting for her. Letting her make her own choice to participate or not will be good for her… will help her heal. Unfortunately, we have a road ahead of us with the Carlisle situation.”

At my look, she explained, “I don’t have all the details yet, but I know she’s not going to back down on her statement. She truly wants Carlisle’s head, and she won’t spare Esme, because she knows it’ll torture her. We will find them, and she’s prepared to kill them both. The issue is we will soon have a newborn with an unknown power on our hands, who is dead set on hunting. She’s not going to care if she kills someone harboring Carlisle and Esme. This could get sticky down the road.”

I started thinkin’ about some of our contacts… about warnin’ them to stay clear of the name Cullen. As soon as I ran through a few names, Alice’s breathin’ hitched slightly. Lookin’, I knew she was in the middle of another vision, so I waited. She nodded after a few seconds, saying aloud as the vision continued. “Good idea. If we have a meeting with the crew and each call our individual contacts, then you and Jasper take the combined ones, it works out in our favor. The key is for the contacts to be told the truth. Carlisle has not only abused his coven leader status to further his twisted experiments, but also broken more than one fundamental vampire law. Worst of all, it was your mate at the center of his latest experiment.”

I looked at my mate while thinkin’, then heard Major’s boots touch down on the balcony, with him sayin’ as he walked through the door, “Some of ‘em may know Cullen, but our contacts are all loyal to us. Ali’s feelin’s are tellin’ me we should get ahead of the game on this, Captain. I’ll handle the crew meetin’ and give ya a heads up on who to call.”

Major offered his hand to Alice, who took it to stand. When she was on her feet, he kissed the inside of her wrist, then her lips gently. By her reaction, I could tell Alice woulda been blushin’ if she had blood in her veins. I couldn’t help but chuckle softly, “We both got tiny mates that blush at the smallest gestures, didn’t we Major?”

Major laughed, but Alice patted him on the chest lightly, “I don’t know… I really like those small gestures. I think they mean more sometimes than grand gestures do. If I know your mate at all -which I do, by the way- she’ll feel the same way, Captain.”

I nodded, then Major reminded Alice that they should get the meetin' and calls out of the way sooner, rather than later. With another smile only for my mate, they both left the room without another word.

I spent the next hour tendin’ to my changin’ mate before Major knocked on the door. When he entered, he handed me a list of 5 names, tellin’ me this was my half of the combined contacts that needed to be spoken to. When I asked if anyone else had started callin’ their individual contacts yet, he nodded, “Yeah, about 10 minutes ago. They are all spread out, so one conversation can’t be overheard by another. I had Ali help with who of our combined contacts should be called by who. Those 5 will wanna hear straight from your mouth that it was your mate wronged, and you’ll be backin’ your newborn mate in seekin’ out her justice. Ya don’t hafta tell them everythin’, but tellin’ ‘em that he knew your mate had a brain tumor and turned it into an experiment, instead of tellin’ her she had it… well, that will go a long way for us.”

I hummed, looking at the names, and automatically knew why I would be the one needing to speak to these 5. I nodded to him, but he was concentrating on Bella. At my raised eyebrow, he offered, “She’s blockin’ me, but the pain is still leakin’ through. I’ll try to send her as much peace as I can while makin’ my phone calls.”

At my nod, he left the room. I spent the next 2 ½ hours speakin’ to the 5 contacts on my list. Thankfully, after givin’ each a bit of the story and what had happened with my mate, all of 'em were horrified at her treatment, plus they agreed to stay clear of anything Cullen. I even told 'em that the McCarty’s were no longer part of the Cullen coven, and Major and his mate were back by my side. Each phone call ended on good terms, which pleased me.

Another 2 hours went by before Alice asked softly if she could come in. She went straight to sit at Bella’s side, kissin' her on the forehead before smiling at me. “It worked, Captain. I’ve spent the last hour and a half looking for Carlisle, and each of the contacts called. Anywhere he goes now… even some we haven’t called… he gets turned away. His only choices are hiding out with Esme alone somewhere unknown, or Volterra. If they hide out alone, I’ll see where. He is too set in his ways, and he can’t do without a plan for too long. If he goes to Volterra, we just have to make sure you can prove to Aro that Bella won’t be a threat to anyone else, which means having control of her gift, whatever that may be.”

I looked down at my mate, then ask, “Do you see anything yet?”

She shook her head, but said, “I know that it’s dangerous… but not much else. Her shield is holding it back. I get the impression that Aro won’t want her, just because of how dangerous it is… that it could be turned on him if he forced her hand… and he is smart enough not to do that, especially with us having her back. He will want her assurance that should they ever be under threat, she would come to their aid, as you and Major have done. Other than that, I couldn’t tell you a thing about what her power might be. I know that doesn’t help much, but I’ll keep looking. Em and Rose asked me to let you know that they’d like to peek in on her if you’re comfortable. They can wait until after you’ve gotten her cooled down a bit if you prefer. Just text Major when you’re okay to have them visit for a few minutes.”

I nodded, “Thanks, Alice. I’ll let Major know when I’m ready.”

After a kiss to Bella’s forehead, then whispering something in her ear, Alice flitted from the room like a fairy.
