Chapter 39: You Too, Huh?

BPOV:

After I took another couple of big sips, I turned my attention to the gathered crowd of our allies. "Thank you for being patient while I took care of myself and my mates. We are all at our normal levels, now, so I will tell you why I called the emergency meeting. During my actual sleep-sleep, I was having the same dream I always do. Only this time it was different. I felt confidence flowing into me, so I knew my mates were near even though I couldn't see them. I stopped dead in my tracks and turned around. I tried to look for Victoria, but as soon as I thought I found her, I was thrust into a vision of sorts. Victoria is sending small groups to our main areas, seeking any information to give her an edge... our numbers, weaknesses, tactical practices... anything to gain the upper hand.”

Everyone was starting to look a little wary, but I continued. “My goddess appeared to me, told me there was a way to stop her. I had to perform a protection ritual with the elements. She guided me through it two times before I was to do it. She told me I would need to draw energy from my mates, but that I wouldn't see them with me in the dream. That they had fed, and it was safe to draw from them until I was filled to the brim with all of our energies. That I must be completely full when I did the ritual. My instincts are telling me that this protection ritual was meant to be done while I was fully in control of my powers. Since that won't happen until I'm turned, I wasn't strong enough to complete the ritual without damaging my energy center. Charlie, I see the look on your face, and can tell none of the elders spoke to you of my turning. I will talk to you about it as soon as we're done here. I promise... just don't jump to any conclusions, and let me finish what I have to say."

I took a deep breath, then Charlie nodded hesitantly, so I said, "Now, to continue. I drew all the energy I could from them until I felt like I would burst, then I did perform the ritual. I pictured the training fields, La Push, the Texas home, Charlie's property and this property. I called the elements to me, then said 'I am the Goddess Elemental. Heed my call and do my bidding. Earth, protect the homes herein. Air, protect the secrets herein. Fire, protect the training grounds herein. Water, protect the allies herein. Shield, protect the Goddess and her mates herein. So it is said. So shall it be done.' I said all of that in latin instinctually.”

Sue and Carmen both nodded as I continued, “The flash of elements at all the places was the elements heeding my call. Any time an enemy tries to gain information or is too close to any of the areas covered by the protection, I will know. They, on the other hand, will feel like they are hitting a brick wall. We need to put a couple wolves at Charlie's property. Both of the training fields are close, so my group and the pack in La Push can easily get to them if I feel the intrusion alarm. Any time I get the alarm, the closest of our unit need to take them out quickly. No hesitation, and Charlie? If you are at home, you are NOT to try and go up against any of them. The wolves are not to let anyone on your property if they sense a threat. It would really be best if you stayed in La Push, but I know you have to work for now. Please do this with no arguments. It is crucial to all of our survival. If one gets back to Victoria's camp with the knowledge that they can't breach the protected areas but can get to others, it'll have a ripple effect, causing all our hard work to be lost."

Charlie looked at Sue, Sue nodded with a soft smile, then Charlie said to me, "On the way here, we knew this was something big. Sue and I talked it over. We both agreed that staying in La Push would be best. I only have to go in to let my deputy know I need a sabbatical. He'll take over seamlessly, so it's no trouble to take the leave earlier than planned. If you want to have wolves escort me to the station and home for clothes, I can be on the rez from now until it's time to leave for Texas."

I saw the looks on the vampire faces in our group. I immediately said, "Alice don't say a word. This is my shindig, and that's part of why I called all of you here. After this battle is won, my mates and I feel the need to be in Texas. We would like all of you to go with us. There will be plenty of room for everyone without being on top of each other, tons of training space, over 200 acres of protection better than Fort Knox, plus the wolves will be joining us, too.”

I saw small smiles starting to emerge on some, but frowns emerging on the imprinted wolves. “The only wolves not going, are the imprinted ones, since the rez will still need protection from stray vamps. They can't stray from their imprints, so they are the logical choice to make sure the rez is still protected. All of the wolves' needs -along with Charlie and Sue's- will be taken care of, so they just need enough with them to make it to Texas. My training will be done with the elders by then, but we'll make sure that they are set up with video conference equipment for anytime I need to speak with them. Sue will be the only elder coming, as Charlie will want to be close to her and I, plus she will want to be close to both of her children. Since Quil is Jake's second and imprinted, he will lead the other wolves staying behind, so the rez will be protected. You don't have to come, but I would feel better about your safety if you did. I can't risk losing any of you."

Carlisle came to kneel in front of me, "We would follow you to the ends of the earth, Bella. We won't leave you again. I swear it. We'll be with you every step of your journey."

I hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek, "Thanks, Carlisle. It means so much to hear you say that. Speaking of new developments..."

I smiled at my mates, who nodded, so I continued, "The four of us have spoken of the babies. At the time of conception, I will be a goddess, elemental, and a very unique vampire. The fathers are both vampire, so we have no idea what mix of anything the babies will be. As Peter put it 'there's no way I can go to Joe Shmoe M.D. to take care of me or the babies'. Will you do it, Carlisle? You are the only doctor I know of that I would trust our care to."

He beamed at the four of us, then grabbed a hold of Jasper, hugging him tightly. "It would be my honor. Thank you so much, Bella. Thank you."

He let go of Jasper, patted Peter on the back, squeezed Char's hand, then kissed my temple.

I smiled. This is a good start. "Now, who has questions?"

Carlisle returned to his spot next to Esme. Edward spoke first, "You said that your powers wouldn't work during true sleep. How were you able to use your powers just then?"

I smiled at him, "That's a really good question. I didn't use any powers. The display of powers you saw was the elements themselves heeding my call. I needed the energy because I invoked the Goddess' Rite of Protection. I sent the energy and my needs to each element, then they took care of setting protection around what I designated in rite. I pictured the areas to be protected in my mind. The whole of La Push and the rez is protected because it would have taken way more energy than I can hold now to individualize the houses of the elders and the pack. One big bubble of protection around the whole area took a lot less energy. It will take less energy to renew the protections, because I can do that in my awake state or my meditative state with no problems."

He murmured his acceptance of my answer before Eleazar asked, "What do you mean when you say 'an enemy will feel like they're hitting a brick wall'?"

I smiled brightly. This was my idea that I told to the goddess. "I told the goddess of my need to know when and where there was a threat with the areas covered, then came up with the idea of the alarm. It's similar to the instinctive alarm going off in my head when I feel danger against me or my mates. The element that coordinates with the enemy's objective will invisibly make a barrier around the affected area, and notify me. Say Charlie's house was the area, and the enemy was going to try to take him out. Water protects the allies, so water would make an invisible barrier around the property, and the area would be under an undetectable shield, similar to mine. As soon as the barrier is put in place, I will know where and why, so we can take out the enemy quickly. On the enemy's side, they won't feel anything is different until they hit the shield. Then it will feel like an invisible brick wall. They won't be allowed through. This is still in effect even if Charlie is not at his house. The protection is around the house. It's the intent of the enemy that feeds the element... I had that worked in, too."

I heard the elders and vampires whispering, "Brilliant," and "Amazing," along with, "Incredible."

I continued, "The biggest energy drain was the Texas property, since it is so far away from me physically right now. I will need to renew the protections there as soon as the property is cleared and deemed to be safe. The closer I am to the area, the better the protections are. I'm not strong enough, yet, to do it from just anywhere. That was part of the damage I sustained. The protection should hold until we get there. The goddess assured me that no one will try to scout that house until after we are there. By that time, the protections will be renewed, plus we'll be there to take out the threat."

Eleazar nodded, then Esme asked softly, "How are you feeling now, Dear? Is your energy center fully repaired?"

I nodded, "It's stronger than ever now, with their venom healing it. I have a feeling my normal energy level will have a permanent boost to it from now on. A higher level of normal energy, so to speak."

She smiled as Tanya asked, "Is there anything else we can get you to eat or drink? You haven't eaten all that much today."

I looked at her gratefully, "Not at this moment. The smoothies contain so much fruit in them, that I am actually over my normal amount for the day. They are a faster and tastier way to get the nutrition I need. The elders have told me I could make a few changes to my food intake, so they can explain what they are while I speak to Charlie. Dad, will you come talk with me for a second?"

He nodded so I got up and hugged myself to him. We walked that way over to the pretty seating area near the new Irises.

I turned to him once we sat down, saying, "I didn't tell you when I explained about my mates, because I didn't want to lay too much on you at once. I didn't want you to find out this way, but there's nothing I can do to change that. It is part of my destiny to become a vampire. I will be unique, and not feed the normal way. I just found that part out. The only time I will need blood is while I'm pregnant or nursing. My powers won't be complete, nor will I have full control of them, until I'm turned. I have to do this, Dad. If I don't, we won't win, then there will be no babies. I have to have full control of the elements before the battle. Also, even if I die a normal human death at 100 years old, my mates will then die. Would you truly have me be the cause of their deaths, no matter when it happened? Would you want to be the cause of Sue's? Please, Dad... know that this was always destined to happen. I will never harm a human as a vampire."

He nodded, saying softly, "That's where the goddess mojo comes in, right? The part where the elemental isn't able to have children physically, but the goddess in her allows it?"

I nodded, then he continued. "I just wish you would have told me. I can handle anything I need to, but you need to tell me these thing, Bells."

I had the sudden urge to tell him of the Major. Oh, dear Goddess. Here we go. "Dad? Did Sue or the elders explain the ins and outs of my episodes to you?"

He shook his head, "Not a lot, just that if I see your eyes change color, I'm supposed to get your mates right away, but not touch them or you. That the color changed with which mate needed to get you back to us. They didn't tell me any more, though."

Goodness gracious. "They didn't explain which color went to who or why, did they?"

He shook his head again. "Dad, I need you to stay calm and listen until I finish. I'm going to explain it all, because more than likely, you'll be sitting in on the rest of my training, now that you are taking your leave early. You will most likely see the start of these episodes when they happen, so there are private details you need to understand. Can you listen without judging?"

He looked at me shocked, "Isabella Marie! When have I judged you? Even when I found out that you had three soulmates, and were intimate with all of them, I have never judged."

Shit... he's right. Damn it all to hell. "I'm sorry Dad, but it goes deeper than you realise. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Please just promise me you'll listen."

He promised, so I started explaining. "Did you know that Jasper was the youngest Major in the Civil War? He was turned by a vicious woman who also had a vampire army of newborns. She trained Jasper, then when she found out about his empathy, she used him to control her army. He was put in charge of turning, training, and disposing of the newborns.

"See, a newborn's strength is greatest during the first year, because they still have their own blood inside their tissues. This makes newborns extremely dangerous, as they're ten times stronger the even Emmett... and he kicks some serious ass. The thing is, they only go for the most basic attack, which is where the training comes in. Once the year was up and the strength waned, unless they had a power, they weren't useful to Maria anymore. They were disposed of just because she had no more use for them. Jasper turned Peter and Charlotte while in Maria's army. He knew no other way to live, so for almost a hundred years, that was all he did. Training, feeding on humans, turning, fighting and fucking."

Charlie winced at my terminology, but I said, "That's what it was, Dad, and you'll have to get used to the goddess' blunt nature. There was no emotion other than just to fill the physical need for release. Anyway, he could feel everything that his victims felt, so it was slowly killing him from the inside. It threw him into a depression. One night after Peter and Jasper had become a bit friendly, they were sent to dispose of a batch of yearlings. Char was one of them. Peter was already mated to Char. They begged Jasper to let them escape... to find a more peaceful existence. He let them go, then five years later, they came back to help him escape. He was severely depressed by then, trying to starve himself. Every time he broke down and fed, the cycle got worse. He stayed with Peter and Char for a while, feeding like they do, but the emotions still got to him.”

Charlie looked like he understood so far, so I continued, “He never wanted to be a killer, Dad. He told me when we first got together, that his soul was stained… that he didn't deserve me. He still beats himself up for all of the death on his hands, but he knew no other way. It was either kill or be killed with Maria. He went off on his own after a bit. That's when he found Alice. She led them to the Cullens through her visions... she's a seer, a future teller. He chose to abstain from humans, to find peace hunting animals. He chose to escape from Maria, but he's still that Major when he needs to be. It's still inside him, and I'm not scared of it. This is where we get to the part about my episodes."

Charlie stayed silent, but took a breath and nodded, like he was preparing himself. I continued softly, "There is a sexual aspect to getting me out of the episodes... to bringing me back. It's a power spike related to the elements. My mates help me release the power safely. That's why you would only see the start of the episode. They would whisk me away somewhere private to take care of me and get me back to myself.

"When my eyes are jade green, I need my Jasper to ground me... stabilize me. When they are crimson red, I need Peter. When I get a build up of passionate emotions like frustration or anger, his heat and passion for me help me release the emotions. Char is my island oasis. When my eyes are caribbean blue, I need her to help me let go, let everything just flow through me and not get caught up in me. When my eyes are silver,"

My voice caught in my throat, so I had to clear it before continuing. "When they are silver, I need the Major that Jasper used to be. In those episodes, I feel like there's a raging tornado inside me, but nothing will slow down enough for me to grasp onto. I am stripped to my base self. Only his control and my total submission to him will bring me back. You know what I'm talking about, so I won't say it in more detail. Know that I am fully aware in my episodes, and I submit willingly. He knows my limits, yet hasn't even come close to them. He only does what is needed to bring me back. The thing is, I have so much control of everything else all the time, that sometimes I need to give it all to the Major, or I'll lose my grip on myself. Can you understand that much?"

Charlie had his head in his hands. I was getting worried until he looked up at me smiling. "Bells, if anyone can understand control and the need to give it up sometimes, it's me. Police Chief, remember?"

I smirked, "You, too, huh?"

He blushed, but nodded. Then it hit me. I gasped, then whispered, "Sue is your Major?"

He blushed scarlet, nodding. I hugged him tightly, then breathed into his ear, "I'm so happy for you. If she takes care of you as well as Major does me, you better never let her get away from you. I'd tell you to marry her, but I don't know if you'd listen. Besides, Leah and I have already banded together to marry you two."

Charlie chuckled and released me, then took my hand, "He doesn't draw blood?"

I shook my head, "Never. Not once. I can handle much more than he dishes out, but I don't like the punishments. I guess that's why they're punishments, though.”

Charlie gave me an understanding nod, then I said, “Enough on that. Sometimes my eyes will be a mixture of colors, so it's important that you look at my eyes carefully to find out who I need, or get Jasper immediately. He will know what has to be done. I keep my emotions fully open to him at all times. Peter and Char share in them, too. It helps them know what I need sometimes before I know myself. If they ever are in front of me in a split second, just step back a bit to let them do what they need to. There are names I recognise with each mate, so I'm asking you not to use any of them, please. I am Jasper's Darlin', Peter's Little One, Char's Sweetness, and Major's Isabella. It's not a good idea to call me any of those, especially during an episode. I won't answer you. It has to come from them. Does that make sense?"

He nodded, "So if I hear any of those names, I'll know you're having an episode, as well as the mate you need."

I shook my head. "My eyes have changed without an episode. Tonight before my sleep... I can tell you this because of the submission thing without feeling weird, right?"

He nodded, "Just don't give me details."

I laughed, promising, "No problem there. Tonight we were being intimate, when I suddenly felt a need growing in me to feel the Major. I wanted the crop and flogger. Jasper wouldn't let me have the Major outside of an episode unless he had time to prepare... to hunt and make sure we would be safe. I knew he hadn't hunted, so I tried to make the need go away, but it wouldn't. I started flipping out, then scrambled off the bed away from them. I screamed in pain when the need consumed me, and my eyes changed. The goddess forced my eyes to change, since I wasn't giving in to my need. I didn't want to tell Jasper, because I was afraid he'd turn me down, say it wasn't safe... that he needed time. My words and thoughts were all broken. When my eyes changed, the Major took over.”

I shook my head, remembering my own actions, then said, “I fought, screaming that he couldn't be there, that I wasn't in an episode and Jasper wouldn't let me have Major because he wasn't prepared... it wasn't safe. What I didn't know was Jasper had realised he could never hurt me in Major mode, even if he hadn't hunted. With everything going on, we hadn't had time for him to tell me of his realisation. Major explained what had happened, told me Jasper was prepared for me to need Major at any unexpected moment. I finally let go, then Major took care of me. I'm lucky I didn't get punished for yelling at Major like I did. It was worse than a three year old's screaming tantrum in the middle of Walmart. Sheesh."

Charlie chuckled in response. I could totally see him picturing me as that three year old. "He did right, though. You didn't know. You were trying to work it out in your head, so he couldn't punish rightfully for that. That would be like saying you had to have dinner done and hot by the time I got home, but not telling you what time I'll be home, or even a general time frame. You can't punish for something like that. Understand?"

I nodded, hugging him to me, "Thanks for understanding, Dad. At least I know there's someone I can talk to if I need to. It means a lot to me that it's you."

He kissed my temple, then we got up to walk back to everyone. He walked directly to Sue, whispering to her as I walked right into the arms of my mates. Jasper placed playful kisses on my left shoulder, Peter on the right side of my neck, and Char along my spine.

God, I love when they do that.

I hummed in pleasure, but heard several forced coughs. I pouted at them as I said, "What! That's still acceptable for public. Our clothes were on, all private parts to ourselves. They weren't doing anything I wouldn't let them do in the mall. Good grief."

I grumbled a little, then everyone busted out laughing. Alice sang, "We were only playing, Bella. We just wanted to see your reaction, is all."

Edward chuckled into her neck, so I stuck my tongue out at them before saying, "Still have kick ass powers over here... don't tempt me too much, or you might find yourself bound head to toe in vines while hanging upside down."

They all stopped laughing quickly.

"Kidding," I sang as I turned back to my mates. They resumed their attention, to which I resumed my humming.
