Chapter 17
John Cameron could see his son fighting his wolf and was worried about the possible ramifications if the Connweller’s were to find out the tribe’s secret.
Taking a deep breath, Jared calmed himself enough to speak. “I get why you’re here now,” he scoffed. “I hate to break it to you, but that’s not my fucking kid.”
“Just what are you trying to say, young man?” Abigail sat forward and glared at the man before her.
“Oh, I think you heard me, Mrs. Connweller, but if you need to hear it again I’ll repeat it. That’s not my fucking kid. Excuse me.”
Jared turned and walked out the door, running to the woods and stripping before letting his wolf take over. He took off at a fast pace, knowing he needed to burn off the anger he was feeling. He couldn’t believe the whore that was his ex was trying to pin a kid on him.
Whoa. Sorry, bro. -Em
Thanks. Do you know where Sam is? -JC
I think he’s at home. -Em
Thanks. Later, bro. -JC
Jared ran to his Alpha’s house and howled before phasing out and pulling on his shorts just as Sam walked out.
“What’s up?”
Jared sank onto the top step of Sam’s porch. Confused, Sam leaned against the railing and waited out his friend. However, what finally spilled out of Jared stunned him to his core.
“Jared, are you sure this kid isn’t yours?”
Sweeping his hand through his hair in frustration. “Do you have any idea the number of guys she fucked while we were together? There are at least six others.”
“So what are you gonna do?”
Sighing, Jared stood up. “I’m gonna go get your sister and introduce the Connweller’s to my fiancée. Let’s see how long her accusations last with Bella around.”
“Don’t use my sister, Jared.”
“I’m not, Sam. She’ll keep me calm and once Kim sees her, she’ll change her tune. I know her, Sam. She’s after something from me and I won’t let her get it.”
Not many people know it, but the Cameron’s are more well off than people believe. Jared’s great-grandfather went against tribal tradition and invested money, managing to follow stock trends like a pro, all while supporting his family from a fishing boat. It was his grandfather who made the most, having found an attorney in Seattle with high profile clients. The attorney never broke privilege, but he did direct his grandfather when to move or reinvest.
“Alright. Let me know how it goes.”
Nodding, Jared phased again and ran back to his house where he could hear that the Connweller’s were still there, arguing with his parents. He quickly got in his car and drove to the Uley’s. After parking his car, Jared knocked and then walked in.
“Jared?” Josh greeted him from the table where he could see the remnants of their dinner.
“Hey, sorry to burst in like this. I need to talk to Bella.”
Bella got up and walked over to him, placing her hands on his cheeks. “What’s wrong?”
“I need you to come to my house with me, please.”
“You know I will, but first tell me what’s going on.” Bella insisted and led Jared over to the table where her parents still sat.
“Okay,” Jared took a deep breath and met Bella’s concerned gaze. “You remember what I told you about my family and our finances?”
“Yeah, I still think we need to use whomever your grandfather did and invest some of my money.”
Jared grinned at her, “Okay, but first, I need you to help me get rid of my ex.”
“Kim?”
“Yeah,” he then explained what he had walked into when he had gotten home earlier. He watched as Bella’s face paled and knew exactly what she was thinking, what all of them were probably thinking. “It’s not mine. There are at least six other people I can think of who could possibly be the father of that baby.”
“Jared, are you sure?” Allison asked from where she sat in shock.
Jared nodded, “I’m sure. I could smell it. The only people in my house that I’m related to are my parents.”
Nodding, Bella stood up, “Let me get changed and we can go.”
Ten minutes later, she walked down the stairs and Jared’s breath caught. Bella was wearing a pair of painted on jeans, a blue cold shoulder shirt with some little sparkles on it. She had on her black boots and had taken her hair down, letting it fall like waves down her back.
“Wow, baby.” Jared couldn’t stop himself from commenting, even with her parents behind him.
“Let’s go.” Bella grabbed her jacket and followed Jared to his car.
The ten minute ride was silent as Bella gathered her thoughts and Jared worried he was gonna lose her. Reaching over, she grabbed his hand and squeezed, letting him know she was there.
Jared pulled into his driveway and parked before looking over at Bella. “You ready for this?”
“Honey, we both know this isn’t your baby. Let’s go prove it.”
Exiting the vehicle, the pair of them walked into the house, hand in hand. They could hear the arguing before they even opened the door, plus the cries of an irate baby. They were so into their screaming match, no one noticed them as they walked in.
Bella immediately went to the baby, picked him up from his seat and began calming him down. She looked over at her fiance and told him to cover his ears. Once he had, she put two fingers to her lips and blew a shrill whistle.
“Let’s go to separate corners, shall we?” She suggested as she continued rocking the now whimpering infant.
“Who the hell are you and why do you have my baby?”
“I’m Bella, Jared’s fiancé, and your baby was screaming due to the noise and, judging by the thickness of his diaper, because he needs a change. Most mother’s would stop their yelling and pay attention to their child.”
Kim huffed and none too gently snatched her infant son out of Bella’s arms.
“He’s cute,” Bella commented as she moved to stand beside Jared, who wrapped his arm around her waist. “Too bad he looks like Jacob Black.”
A loud gasp came from all three of the Connwellers, as well as Jared. Melanie and John walked from where they were standing and stood behind their son and Bella.
“Is that true, Kimberly? Is this the child of Jacob Black and you’re trying to pin it on my son?” John asked her in a hard voice.
“N-no, this is Jared’s child.” Kimberly stuttered, but Bella knew better and had already texted Billy, who was on his way with Jacob in tow.
A knock on the door brought a grin to Bella’s face. “Let’s find out.” Turning to her fiancé, “Sweetie, why don’t you answer the door.”
Jared shrugged, wondering what she was up to, and answered the door. “Hey, Chief.”
“Jared, may we come in?” Billy’s voice came from the doorway.
“Um...sure,” he looked back at his parents, seeing their confused gazes which matched his.
Bella knew once they crossed the threshold things were going to get even more interesting. She was ready to watch as Jacob not only hung himself out to dry, but also embarrassed his father. While she didn’t want to hurt Billy since he’d been so wonderful to her, it was time to take his son down a few pegs.
