Standing Outside the Fire.
We call them cool
Those hearts that have no scars to show.
The ones that never do let go.
And risk the tables being turned.
We call them fools
Who have to dance within the flame,
Who chance the sorrow and the shame,
That always comes with getting burned.
But you've got to be tough when consumed by desire.
'Cause it's not enough just to stand outside the fire.
We call them strong
Those who can face this world alone,
Who seem to get by on their own,
Those who will never take the fall.
We call them weak
Who are unable to resist,
The slightest chance that might exist
and for that forsake it all.
They're so hell-bent on giving, walking a wire
Convinced it's not living it you stand outside the fire.
Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is no tried, it's merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire
There's this love that is burning
Deep in my soul
Constantly yearning to get out of control
Wanting to fly higher and higher
I can't abide
Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, It is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Standing outside the fire
Life is not tried, It is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire.
Standing Outside the Fire: By Garth Brooks
The fires blaze was so hot it seemed that no amount of water would be able to stop the fire from spreading as it drew closer and closer to the homes of Phoenix residents. The summer sun and lack of rain was of no help either, only intensifying the heat that was flaming the firefighters fighting the blaze. They had begun the evacuation of the residents in the area hours ago, but there were still a few stragglers that refused to leave their homes.
Jasper had just finished his shift with the hoses and was on his rotation to help relocate those residents who refused to leave. Coming upon a small house that was settled back from all the others, he didn't think anyone was there but he still knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer. Minutes passed, he decided to knock again. This time he heard movement inside the home. The door cracked open and Jasper was meet with a pair of deep green eyes.
"Ma'am" Jasper nodded.
"What are you doin' on my porch?" a very bell like voice chimed from behind the door.
"Ma'am, I'm with the local fire department - we have been asking residents to please leave their homes and go to a safe place until we can get these wildfires under control." Jasper told the woman.
"Well, good for you, but I'm not leavin'."
"Miss, I insist that you vacate the premises."
"I will not leave my home! This is not the first wildfire that spread through here and I can guarantee it won't be the last. I didn't leave then and I'm not leaving now."
"If you insist... Can I at least get a glass of water? It is rather hot out here and I just came off the lines."
"Just a minute."
The door closed and Jasper wondered if she was going to simply leave him standing there. After a few minutes, the door fully opened up and Jasper finally came face-to-face with what he could only describe as his dream come true. The woman standing in front of him was almost as tall as he was. Standing at a possible 5 foot 9, dark chocolate hair that was almost black with red highlights that shined brighter when the sun hit them, dazzling green eyes, an hour-glass figure, and legs that looked long enough to wrap around him twice.
"Here." Her bell like voice called to him.
"Thank you, Miss."
"Bella, please - my name is Bella."
"Well then - thank you, Bella. The name's Jasper."
"You're not from around here are you, Jasper?"
"No, not really. I offered to help out with the wildfires. I'm originally from Texas."
"So far from home."
"I know but it was the right thing to do."
"What does your family think?"
"I'm alone. My parents died in a fire a few years back. That's why I became a firefighter to begin with."
"I'm sorry."
"Not your fault."
"Still, I shouldn't have pryed."
"You didn't. I told you."
"Oh."
"So why won't you leave?"
"This is my home; I have never left it. It was my father's home before that so I won't leave it just so they can let it burn down."
"I promise, they won't let it burn down."
"Don't make promises you can't keep. They always let some of them burn... that's how they get ahead of the blaze. They foam the fronts of the last line of houses closest to the fire, then when it reaches the houses they bring in the helicopters with more of that foam and dose the fires that way. They have always done it that way - only before they had the foam, they used water."
"Huh, I didn't even know that."
"Like I said - I have always been here."
"Well I guess there is no changing your mind so I best be goin' to the next house. Would you mind if I came back to check on you tomorrow?"
"I would appreciate it. It gets lonely all the way out here."
"So till tomorrow?"
"See you tomorrow, Jasper."
"Goodbye, Bella."
Then she was gone once again. Disappearing into her house. Before leaving Jasper took out her garden hose that he spotted on the side of her home and sprayed a good portion of the yard and side of the house. Just a precaution he told himself. Then left to go about his duties.
When his team left for the night to allow the others to take their place, Jasper's thought were on the mysterious woman he now knew was named Bella. A beautiful name for a beautiful woman, Jasper thought. When they got back to the fire house he was confronted by his partner Emmett. Also called Bull cause of his size and complete lack of grace.
"Hey hot shot, where were you after you left the lines?"
"Went to help with the re-locations."
"And how did that go?"
"Good, for the most part."
"Most part?"
"Yeah, there is this one woman in the outskirts away from everyone else that just refuses to leave."
"Yeah, I had a run in with the hermit too!" Joey another of the fighters chimed in.
"Hermit?" Jasper asked.
"Of course man! She wouldn't even open her door but a crack, like she was afraid we would kidnap her and force her to leave."
"I didn't have a problem with her. She came out on the porch and talked to me - even brought me a glass of water." Jasper said.
Everyone stopped to look at him like he had grown several heads.
"What is everyone looking at?"
"You saw the hermit?" Joey asked.
"Yeah, and stop calling her that! Her name is Bella." Jasper growled.
"Whoa! You even know her name?"
"Damn - Jazzman is hot stuff here, fellas! No woman can refuse his Texas charms." Emmett added while laughing.
"Cut it out, guys. She is just lonely and doesn't want to lose the only thing she has to her name."
"Getting soft on her, huh?" Emmett asked.
"Fuck off, Emmett!" Jasper stowed his stuff in his locker and headed to his bunk. He fell asleep that night, with green eyes staring back at him behind his eyelids.
****************
Bright and early the next day, Jasper found himself once again in full gear on the front lines fighting the flames. He knew he should be concentrating on what was going on around him but he could get his mind off of Bella. The things she said, the look in her eyes when she spoke of her father, the anger that boiled hotter than the flames of fires when she said about the homes and belongings people lost because they were forced to evacuate so the fire company could allow their homes to burn... He understood that to win the war you needed to lose some battles but he had to agree that it was wrong to make those people forfeit everything they cherished. Jasper hadn't noticed that he had stopped spraying the flames and that they were now literally licking at his fingertips.
"Jazzman - snap out of it!" Emmett yelled from behind him.
Shaking his head a little, he refocused on the task at hand. It wasn't until late in the afternoon that he was once again rotated out of the front lines and set out with the relocation party. This time he started in town and moved his way out to Bella's. Most of the homes in his quadrant were empty and though few stragglers gather things on their way out, none planned on staying. As soon as he got to Bella's property line he was stunned still - there on the side of the little house stood Bella, hose in hand, watering down the landscape and making her beautiful lawn into what looked like a giant mud pit.
"Bella, what are you doing?" Jasper asked as he approached her.
"Oh Jasper, it's you! What does it look like I'm doing? Fire can't burn mud and water. If I make a large enough perimeter around the house, the flames won't touch it."
"Well, okay then. Need any help?"
"Yeah, could you grab that garden trowel and start raking the area I already wet down? This way once you big, burly men get the flames under control my grass will grow back just as strong as before."
"Very funny, Bella."
"I thought so."
The two worked silently for hours, tilling and watering down the lawn. It was just after dark when Jasper stood and wiped the sweat off his forehead.
"I think I have to call it quits for now, Bella. The guys will come lookin' for me if I don't head back now."
"Will I see you tomorrow?"
"Sure thing, Darlin'. I wouldn't want anything to happen to ya."
"Such the gentleman."
"Thank ya, Darlin." Jasper drawled.
Jasper watched as Bella made her way over to turn off the faucet. With a smile and a soft wave of her hand, she once again disappeared into her home allowing Jasper to leave her yard - also with a smile on his face. Of course, they didn't say much to each other but it still felt right. After arriving back at the station house he was once again cornered by Emmett.
"So, did you go see that woman?"
"Bella. Her name is Bella."
"Fine, did you go see Bella?"
"Yes"
"And?"
"And what?"
"Well, what did you do? What does she look like? Why won't she leave?" Emmett spewed questions like he couldn't stop himself.
"Whoa, Emmett - chill out! We hung out and I helped her with some yard work. She won't leave because she has never left before and the house she lives in is all she has left of her father."
"You didn't tell me what she looks like?"
"It's none of your business."
"Oh - she's fuckin hot, isn't she? That's why you won't say anything - you're keeping her all to herself you greedy bastard!"
"Alright yes, she's hot."
"So what does she look like?"
"Long dark hair, hour-glass body, legs for miles, and eyes that are just hypnotizing."
"Damn man! You got it bad."
"Got what bad?"
"You're in love with her!"
"Am not! I've only met her yesterday and we only talked twice."
"Love knows no bounds, and can hit someone when they least expect it." Emmett said.
"Did you really just say that?"
"Say what?"
"Never mind."
Jasper finished getting round for bed and said good night to Emmett.
****************
It would be two days before Jasper could get back to Bella's. The fires had gotten worse over night and were getting even closer to the town. The fighters constantly rotated in and out of the front lines. It was becoming hard to keep the fight up when others were dropping like flies in the intense heat. They were all hoping that mother nature would take mercy on them on and let some rain fall. It wasn't until the weekend that it seemed their prayers were answered: A strong thunderstorm was blowing through the area. Jasper decided to take the reprieve and head over to see Bella. He practically ran to her house. He knocked on the door and waited for her to answer the door. He was soon becoming impatient so he decided to look around. He was almost around the back of the house when he saw her standing at the edge of her property, wearing a white sundress and staring up at the dark clouds that were brewing. He moved closer to her.
"Can you feel that?" she whispered.
Jasper wasn't sure if she was talkin' to him or not. Then she turned to him.
"Jasper, can you feel that?"
"Not sure what I'm supposed to be feeling."
"The storm, Jasper - can't you feel it in you? The electricity pulses through your body setting each of your nerves pulsing. It's like having an orgasm without actually having someone touch you."
Jasper just stared at her. Unable to comprehend what she just said to him.
"Come here and I'll show you."
Jasper walked over to her.
"Stand here. Remove you shirt, let your body breath. Socks and shoes too. The more open you are the more you will feel."
Jasper removed everything she asked him to and stood with his feet in the mud of the yard.
"Now raise your arms out straight. Palms facing the sky." Bella help to guide his arms into the position they needed to be in. Just the feel of her hands on his body sent sparks flying through him.
"Now close your eyes and tilt your head back."
Jasper continued to do as she instructed.
"Breathe deeply and let nature fill you."
They stood together like this for several minutes before the rain began to fall. Jasper could now feel what she was talking about - each drop that hit is skin caused a wave of feeling to go through him, just enough to cause goose bumps to erupt all over his skin. He could feel Bella move next to him before he felt her fingertips skimming across his skin, her breath fanning over his back as she leaned up against him.
"Do you feel it now, Jasper?"
"Yes..." it was almost a whisper from his lips.
"How does it make you feel?"
"Like every nerve in my body is alive."
"Yes..." Bella sighed.
Bella began trailing her fingers all over his skin from his shoulders to his chest. She stopped with her palms placed firmly on his chest. He kept his eyes closed as she tilted his head down, waiting for what would happen next. When her lips met his, his body shook and trembled - he had never felt anything like this before. When she stepped back, he let his head fall back into place allowing the rain to wash over his face. He was jolted when he felt her hands on the edge of his pants.
"Bella?"
"Shh, Jasper - just feel."
Jasper once again let the feelings flow through him as Bella slowly unbuttoned his jeans, revealing he was not wearing anything underneath. Bella bit her lip to stop the moan trying to escape her lips. She continued to remove them, dragging her fingertips along his skin. Jasper lifted on foot and then the other helping her to remove the article of clothing. He had yet to open his eyes, letting his other senses lead. When he felt Bella's tongue on the tip of his now throbbing cock, he jolted slightly before relaxing his body once again, returning to the "feeling." Bella slipped his cock inside her mouth after licking the pre-cum off his head. He tasted delicious - his natural flavor mixing with the taste of the rain running down his body. Hollowing out her cheeks, she began sucking and licking every inch of his engorged member. By now, Jasper was trying his hardest to keep himself steady and not release the grunts and groans building in his throat. Bella must have felt his struggle, she popped him out of her mouth and said:
"Jasper, release what you feel. Mother Nature does not care what sounds come from you - you are simply showing your gratitude for the gift she is giving you."
With that a long drawn out moan left his lips, Bella began once again to devour his delicious cock - she pushed and pulled, while swirling her tongue around the head. Jasper could feel is orgasm building as his body began to tremble.
"Bella... I'm gonna..."
"Just let it go Jasper it's a natural reaction."
Jasper fell silent as his whole body began to pulse. He wasn't sure if this was natural or if she was some sort of witch casting him under a spell, but he had never felt anything like this before. Just as he thought it couldn't feel any better, Bella reached around him and tugged lightly on his balls. The sensation shot straight through Jasper making him to explode into Bella's mouth. She sucked harder extending his orgasm. Once she was sure that he was finished she licked him clean and kissed up his chest. Once she got to his neck, she pulled his face down to her locking her lips with his. He never thought he would be turned on tasting himself on a woman's lips but it made him hard once again. Finally, he opened his eyes to look into her deep green pools, becoming lost. His hands found their way onto her body. Unable to control the urge to feel every inch of her, he began to remove her already see-through sundress. Noticing that she was completely bare underneath, he began kissing his way down her body.
"Jasper, you don't have to.." he cut her off by kissing her.
"Shhh, Bella - just feel." he said, using her own line against her.
Bella moaned as he continued to kiss his way down to her heavenly apex. He laid her down on the soft earth over top her dress, the once bright-white turning a muddy-brown. He began licking her soft lips and caressing her clit, making her squirm and moan under his movements. Jasper switched his fingers to her hole, inserting one and then another, her moans growing louder. Jasper dipped his head and took her clit between his lips, sucking lightly as Bella arched her back and pushed herself further into Jasper's mouth. Jasper brought his other hand up to caress her breast, twisting her nipple between his fingers. The over stimulation seemed to be too much for Bella, she released into his mouth. Jasper had never tasted anything sweeter then Bella - he felt he could live off her juices alone. He continued stroking her until she came back down from her high.
"Jasper, I need to feel you!"
"How do you want to feel me, Bella?"
"I want to feel you fill me... please." Bella begged.
Jasper - not a man to make a woman beg - crawled up her body and positioned himself at her entrance.
"Are you sure about this?"
"Yes, Jasper - please..."
Taking that as her answer, Jasper slid into her slowly. Feeling him fill her completely almost pushed him over the edge. He stilled for a moment to get his bearings before Bella pushed her hips up into him, causing him to groan. He began moving slow and steady at first.
"Faster, Jasper - please."
He picked up his pace. Sliding in and out of her at a speed that seemed slightly too fast for a human to do. Her moans got louder and were joined by his grunts of pleasure. He could feel her start to tighten around him as his own body starting to pulse.
"That's it, Bella... Cum for me - let me feel all of you."
"God, Jasper - you feel incredible! Don't stop!"
Jasper continued pumping in and out of her erratically. Soon they both exploded together, both seeing white lights and stars as the storm continued to rumble and crack around them. They held each other as the storm ran its course; a feeling of utter completeness filling the both of them. Neither had felt anything like this before. It was a connection felt through nature. They finally felt complete.
