She was a girl on a wagon train...

Isabella Swan was set to head west on with the next wagon train out of the Carolina's. He father, the last of her family left, had just past away. she packed up all the belongs she had left. a few outfits, pot and pans, what ever food rations were left in the small cabin. She was also taking along the only thing she had left of her father. His gun. Isabella was taught to shot and hunt by her father. He told her it was for her protection.

The following day at the break of day the wagon train, along with Isabella started heading west.

Headed west across the plains...

The plains were open and beautiful. Isabella took in the sight of the wild country surrounding her. fields of wild grasses and flowers flowed over slopping hills like the waves of the ocean. Occasionally she would see a bear or a herd of deer. Wild rabbits, or foxes scampered all around the fields. They had been traveling for several weeks now she wasn't sure how far they had gotten. she knew they had crossed the Mississippi River a few days back. they had lost several of the wagons and cattle to the rapids in the river. They camped for the night in the warmth of the desert. come sunrise they would travel more.

The train got lost in a summer storm...

Midway through the day the skies turned dark. The thunder could be heard for miles around. lightning lit up the skies. Soon the rain was pouring down so hard they couldn't see to move forward.

They couldn't move west and they couldn't go home...

They were stuck. she climbed down from her wagon to tend to her horses. The mud clung to her shoes and bottom of her dress. What luck would it be for her to come all this way and be lost. She looked to the skies to ask for help. "Father if you can hear me. I need your help and guidance. Were lost. I don't think we can move from where we are. please if you can hear me send help." she hoped her father would hear her cries. She continued to try and calm her horses. soon she could hear the sounds of faint hooves splashing in the surrounding mud puddles. When she looked up she couldn't believe her luck.

Then she saw him ridin' through the rain...

This man came out of nowhere. You could see his badge shining on his jacket. He rode to the front of the train and spoke to the man leading the wagon train. Isabella jumped back up onto her wagon and to the reigns as the train started moving again.

He took charge of the wagons and he saved the train...

They came to a stop at the next trading post. He rode along to check on each wagon to make sure everyone was alright. Isabella had once again jumped down to check her horses. She heard a throat clear behind her.

Then she swore she heard the voice of an angel. "Ma'am do you need any help? Is everything alright?" When she looked up and their eyes met she was lost in the see of blue. His chiseled features were strong. His wavy blonde hair occasionally falling into his eyes. She blushed and looked down at her feet.

And she looked down and her heart was gone...

"Ma'am?" she looked back up at his face and smiled. "Yes Sir everything is fine and I am sure I can handle things from here." she said in return. "Well if you should ever need my help Ma'am you can find me here at the post. Just ask for Ranger Jasper Whitlock." "Well thank you Ranger I will be sure to remember that."

"May I ask your name Miss?" "Isabella, Isabella Swan." "Well Miss Isabella I will be seein you around then." she watched as he rode away. The man in charge of the wagon train told everyone to re-supply and be ready by first light.

The train went west but she stayed on in Lonesome Dove...

Isabella decided she was good where she was. She started looking for a place to settle. It didn't take long for her to find a small three room hunting cabin not far from the post.

A farmer's daughter with a gentle hand...

She started farming the land around the cabin. The crops were growing rather well. She traveled several times to and from the post. She has seen the Ranger several times in and about town.

A blooming rose in a bed of sand...

The Ranger has been to check on her several times. Each time he would come to see her, he would bring with him a single red rose. He would stay for several hours, speaking with her. She would cook him a meal and then with a kiss on the cheek he would bid her good night until the next time. Isabella knew she was in love with the Ranger. If only she knew if he felt the same for her.

She loved a man who wore a star...

Ranger Whitlock was well known through out the west and was often called away on official business. it would be many days before she would see him again. He would bring her gifts from his travels. Sometimes rare flowers, or lovely fabrics. But always a rose.

A Texas Ranger known near and far...

On one such night after a long trip, he returned to her. Upon entering her home he pulled her in for a close embrace. "Isabella, there is something I need to ask you." he whispered into her hair. she pulled back and looked into his eyes. She saw the love shining in his eyes. "Anything Jasper." He pulled her toward her sofa. "Isabella you know we have spent many a wonderful days together here and I do not wish for them to ever end would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?" "OH Jasper, Yes of course I will become your wife. I Love you." He pulled her to him and kissed her lips. "As I love you.

So they got Married and they had a child...

Soon the two lovers were happily married. It wasn't long after that Isabella paid a visit to the doctor at the post to hear the news that she was carrying her beloveds child. She hurried home and waited for him to return to her so she could tell him the wonderful news. When Jasper returned home that night she cooked him his favorite meal of fried venison and potatoes. Once he finished Isabella pulled him to their bed and told him the news. "Jasper love." "Yes Bella, what is it?" he asked while taking her hands in his. "I have some wonderful news." "What?" "We are going to have a baby!" she cried out to him. The smile that he wore on his face could light a thousand darkened rooms. He lifted her into his arms kissing her and swinging her around. He kissed her passionately and they made love that night.

But times were tough and the west was wild...

Wasn't long after their son was born that Jasper was once again called away. She would look for his letters to come through the post. soon several weeks had past without a word.

So it was no surprise the day she learned...

One night after she had laid the baby down to sleep there was a knock at her door. One of Jasper's fellow Rangers was standing there with his hat in his hand. "Mrs. Whitlock?" "Yes." "I am sorry to bring word to you that Ranger Jasper Whitlock was killed in the line of duty." "Oh my." Isabella fell to her knees and cried after the young Ranger left.

That her Texas man would not return...

She never saw him after that.

to Lonesome Dove...

He was buried in Dallas where his family was from and where the Rangers buried those who served.

She held her son close that day. Jasper David Whitlock was laid to rest. She was left alone with only her memories of him and their son. Jasper William Whitlock.

Back to Back with the Rio Grande...

It didn't take her long to realize the wildness of the world around her. Those strangers that passed through from over the border. They scared her and she would pray everyday that nothing bad would happen to her or her son the only piece she still had of Jasper.

A Christian woman in the devil's land...

Settler's were being killed for their money or even just a few crops.

She learned the language and she learned to fight...

Two of the strangers that passed through the post were married.. Isabella had taken to them right away. Charlotte and Peter where a big help to Isabella. They helped her to speak their language so she could communicate easily with them. Peter showed her once again how to clean and fire her fathers gun. after a few months she was just as good as any man.

But she never learned how to beat the lonely nights.

Every night as she watched her son sleep in his crib she would think of his father. It was hard for her to sleep at nights. Sleeping in there bed was often too much for her and she would cry herself until she passed out from exhaustion.

In Lonesome Dove, Lonesome Dove...

Years have passed and the town around them grew and grew. Her son was growing quickly. He reminded her so much of her husband. She would tell him stories of the journey's his father would take. He would always say he wanted to be just like is papa.

She watched her boy grow to a man...

Soon enough her son was full grown. his schoolin' done. He often went out hunting with Peter. They would come home laughing and joking with each other. Isabella and Charlotte would then chase them out of the house to get cleaned up at the spring while they cleaned and cooked the latest kill.

He had an angel's heart and the devil's hand.

Once clean young Jasper would come in and kiss his momma on the cheek and give her a rose he had picked from her garden. Isabella would shed a tear at the memory of her husband, as she would see him reflected back at her in her sons features.

He wore a star for all to see...

One day returning from town he wore a smile that Isabella swore he was channeling his father. He rushed into the house and wrapped his arms around her and swung her around. "Mama your never gonna guess what I did today." "Oh Jasper honey why don't you just tell me." "Fine Mama. I joined the Rangers just like Paw. see." He held his star up for her to see. A tear sprung to her eye as she took it in her hands and shined the star. "Oh Mama I didn't mean to make you cry." "Oh Jasper it's not that. Your Father would have been so proud of you." she hugged him close to her. when she pulled back she took his star and placed on his shirt directly above his heart. "There. You where that with Pride." " I will Mama."

He was a Texas lawman legacy...

He moved up the ranks quickly just like his father. His reputation proceeded him just like his father. he was often sent out to help other towns but for the most part he stayed close to his mother.

Then one day word blew into town...

Rumors where starting to fly around town about a string of bank robberies up north heading in their direction.

It seemed the men that shot his father down...

Once the picture of the robbers were circulated around the small town, Isabella remembered the mans face as the one who killed her husband all those years ago. He took off before they could catch him. it appears he has returned to the states.

Had robbed a bank in Cherico...

It seems as if this man was moving closer and closer. Isabella was starting to worry about young Jasper. She didn't want to lose him too. Not to the same man that took her husband. she would not let that happen.

The only thing 'tween them and Mexico...

Isabella knew that would have to pass through town. she had a feeling that they would hold up here for the night before going over the border and out of range of the long arm of the law. But not this time. she would not let them get away.

Was Lonesome Dove...

Isabella found herself in town that afternoon. She had told her son that she needed to see someone about a gift for the baby that Charlotte and Peter were expecting.

The Shadows stretched across the land...

Night had began to fall when Isabella heard the familiar sounds of horses coming down a alley way near by. Young Jasper was on duty tonight and was patrolling the streets. She hoped she could sneak away without him seeing her. she had brought her fathers pistol with her, tucked safely in her hand bag. When she turned into the alley the men were just dismounting their horses when they turned to see her standing there. "Well Hello their Pretty Lady. To what do we owe this wonderful welcome into town." one of the men said to her. "Oh I am not here to welcome you." she said as she pulled the pistol from her bag. she aimed at the men and took fire.

As the shots rang out down the Rio Grande...

The men scrambled for their lives kick up dirt and sand causing the area to be covered in a cloud of dust.

And when the smoke had finally cleared the street...

Young Jasper started to run toward the commotion in the alley way. He could not see who was down there, but he knew they were in trouble with the amount of gunfire. as he rounded the corner he could start to see several bodies laying on the ground.

The men lay at the Ranger's feet.

Young Jasper was shocked to see the robbers laying on the ground. whoever it was had left the gun behind. when he saw the pistol he knew who it was. but to protect her he cleaned the gun and tossed it back in with the bodies.

But legend tells to this very day...

The rumors all said it was a rival gang who killed the men that day. They all believe it because the money from the robberies was never found. Isabella knew very well where the money went as she was the one that returned it to the banks anonymously.

That shots were comin from an alleyway...

The men in the alley that night never got a shot off. she was quicker then that. she didn't give them the chance. she made sure they paid their penitence for their crimes. now she left it in gods hands.

'though no one know who held the gun...

Because young Jasper wiped the gun clean no one knew for sure who pulled the trigger of the only gun found with the robbers.

There ain't no doubt if you ask someone...

Everyone in town said they knew who done it, but on one could show proof. Some in town say that it was Isabella who was seen leaving the rear of the alley. some say she may have witnessed who done the shooting. Others even say it was the Ranger himself.

In Lonesome Dove...

But I guess they will never know the truth.
