Protecting the Black Wolf's Mate

Chapter 11:
Bella's POV
Sam set two plates down in front of me again, then picked me up to set me in his lap. The pizza looked awesome, causing me to hum in appreciation. We all ate and laughed together like it was what normally happened on a daily basis.
I noticed that when the boys got up to get more, they asked if their imprints wanted any. I smiled as Sam whispered, "They'll take it to heart, Angel. Even as pack leader, I've never been able to reach them about manners like you did with just a few words."
I nodded as I chewed my food, then Sam continued, "You weren't hard on them, you just made a clear and valid point. They need someone like that. It goes a long way that you have the other girls in mind, too."
I kissed him softly, "They just need a little guidance, is all. If I can give that to them, all the better."
He nodded, hugging me to him, but whispered as I stifled a yawn, "Are you tired?"
I nodded into his chest, "Yeah, a bit."
Sam looked at the time, then said, "Jared, how much sleep have you had?"
Jared shook his head, "Not much, Boss."
Sam scowled, "You should head back to the rez. Get some sleep before patrol. You can crash at my place if it's easier. Don't forget, I want a phone call when your patrol is done."
Jared nodded and stood up, leaving his plate on the coffee table. I scowled, "You may be part wolf, but you are still human, too. Next rule... pick up after yourselves. That house is so big, that I'm going to be cleaning enough as it is. You guys can make my life easier -and in turn, everyone's- by simply picking up after yourselves, not leaving messes behind for me to get pissed at."
Jared smiled bashfully, "Sorry, Bella. You're right."
I nodded, but Charlie just chuckled, "Already a den mother, teaching her cubs."
I chuckled at that, "I guess I am, but they need to realize that what they do will impact not just them, but everyone who is in the house. The easier they make things, the more time I'll have not cleaning to enjoy making desserts and things for them. It's quite simple really."
Both boys beamed, then Sam said as I yawned again, "Time for sleep, my little den mother. Not just a nap this time."
Charlie smiled before kissing my forehead, "Sweet dreams, Bells. We'll get the rest of the house ready before you wake."
I nodded, "Sorry guys. Night."
Quil shook his head, "You've had a busy few days, Bella. You have a big day tomorrow, too. You need a good night's rest."
I smiled, then Sam grabbed a few bottles of water as he carried me up to the room. He closed and locked the door, then stood me at the side of the bed to strip me out of my clothes. He grabbed my 'Skylight' chemise and knee-length robe, then laid them on the nightstand, saying, "For in the morning when the doc comes. I'll wake you before he shows up."
I nodded as I crawled up onto the bed on my hands and knees. Sam moaned. I looked over my shoulder at him, but he crawled up behind me, kissing my spine while whispering, "If you're tired, you shouldn't stay in this position. I'm liable to take you, my sexy little mate."
He ghosted his hands up the back of my thighs. I rested my elbows on the bed, making my ass stick high in the air. He groaned in response, "Need to taste you. Please, Isabella."
I spread my legs in answer, then his hands went to my ass, kneading and massaging. I moaned softly; he ran two fingers from my clit to my entrance before dipping them inside to tease me. I whimpered in need, so he spread me wider with his hands as he leaned in to lick a line up my slit. He hummed as he lapped at me, "So much sweeter, Isabella."
I faintly heard laughing from downstairs, then Sam stilled. I whimpered, but Sam cleared his throat, "Ummm... I just figured out why your scent and taste are sweeter, Isabella."
I turned to sit on the bed facing him, so he whispered, "Are you sure about not wanting to use protection?"
I nodded, "Yeah, why?"
He crawled to hover over me as he laid me back, "Because you're in heat, Isabella. You're ovulating. Paul caught my comment about you being sweeter, then said something to Leah about her being right that you're in heat."
I blushed, "They smiled huge smiles when you said that earlier, just before they rushed out of the room. Remember?"
With a nod from him, I said surely, "Let nature have its way, Sam. Make love to me."
He kissed me slowly, teasingly, sliding inside me in one smooth stroke. We both moaned as he seated himself, while we held each others' gaze. There was no need for words. Just our breathy moans and the sounds of our lovemaking filled the room. We immersed ourselves in each other, lost track of everything else as we loved completely, allowing our feelings do the talking for us. When we finally came together, the room filled with moans and sighs instead of screams and cries.
He rolled us after a few minutes of catching our breath, so that I laid on his chest with him still nestled inside me. His fingers ghosted along my curves after he pulled the covers over us. I fell asleep soon after to the sound of his breathing and heartbeat.
Sam's POV
To say I was shocked when I heard Paul comment about Isabella being in heat... well, that was an understatement. I should have realized since both Paul and Jared have been through the same thing, but it didn't even register.
Our lovemaking was truly beautiful and spiritual tonight, yet I couldn't help but hope that she becomes pregnant as a result.
She fell asleep on my chest as I traced her beautiful curves, never even fussing about me still being inside of her. After Isabella's breathing evened out, Paul and Leah said softly on their way out the front door, "Good luck, Sam."
I whispered my thanks, then soon heard the car pull out of the drive. Quil, Sue, and Billy were the last ones to leave. I fell into a peaceful sleep soon after I heard Charlie lock up.
I woke up to the sound of Charlie making coffee downstairs, realizing quickly that my imprint and I had disconnected sometime in the night, but that I was curled around her protectively. I kissed her mark lingeringly, then looked at the clock.
It was soon time for Jared to call, so I slipped out of bed and pulled my shorts on, deciding that I'd get a shower before I woke Isabella. I pulled the blanket up to cover my sleeping beauty, picked my phone up from the nightstand, then slipped out of the room quietly. I ran my hands over my face and through my hair, saying as I walked into the kitchen, "Morning, Chief."
He smiled as he got another cup from the strainer. "Morning, Son. Is Bells still asleep?"
I nodded when he slid the coffee to me and sat down, "Yeah, Jared's supposed to call in soon. I didn't want the phone to wake her. I figured I'd get my shower after he checked in, then wake her. Does she drink tea or anything in the morning? I know Dr. Young wouldn't want her drinking coffee... I should really set an appointment up for Bella to see her. She might want to put Bella on precautionary vitamins or something."
Charlie nodded, letting me know Isabella's preferences. "She likes that one tea blend that Sue left out. I'll get it started when you get your shower. It's a good idea, since you can't really talk to Dr. Gerandy about it. With Emily being the doc for the pack, she'll know what to do."
He smiled at me sheepishly, then asked, "How soon will you know? I overheard Paul's comment to Leah last night."
I chuckled, "Eager, are we? Umm... well, with all the stress she's under, it could make her miss her time... so that's no guarantee. The wolves can hear as soon as the baby's heart starts to beat and circulate, though, so a few weeks from now. Doctors consider a woman to be 2 weeks pregnant at the point of conception, since they mark the 40 weeks from the point of her last cycle. A baby's heart starts to beat in the fifth week of the 40-week term, so we should know in around three weeks. Our wolf hearing allows us to hear the heartbeat a lot sooner than the ultrasound and doppler that the doctors use."
He nodded, "How do you know all that?"
I laughed, then explained, "It's part of my training. I'll need to document it, or rather Bella will, with the legends and generational info for the tribe. This will be the first pack baby we've been able to track from start to finish, so I should get Emily to the house to look at her soon."
Charlie nodded, "Will she be able to carry full term since you actually transform? Billy and Quil's generations never transformed, so we can't go by that."
I shook my head, "I really don't know, Charlie. I have to sit down with Quil, since he's the only living person left from the time of the last phasing generation. He should be able to tell me what to expect when Isabella does become pregnant, if she isn't already."
Just then my phone rang, so I smiled at Charlie as I flipped it open, "Yeah.... Cool. Go ahead and go back to my place. Eat, then crash. I'll call when we leave here. You can meet us at the house to help unload. Did Kim crash with you?.... 'Kay. Make sure she checks in with her Mom. I don't want to get a call from her later asking where Kim is.... Yeah, get some sleep."
I flipped my phone shut, then said to Charlie, "No scents. Jared did a few turns around this property as well as the new one. Both were good. Kim crashed with him at my place, and he's going back there until I call. He'll meet us at your new place to help unload the trucks. With my truck, Bella's, and Paul's with the trailer, we should be able to get a bunch of this over there in one load. Then you have Leah's SUV, along with the other the cars, that more boxes can go into."
He smiled, "A one day move... sounds good to me."
We talked more as I finished my coffee, then I asked him to start the tea, because I was going to get my shower. He smiled as I walked up the stairs, then I quietly grabbed a new set of shorts from inside the bedroom door. She was still sleeping peacefully, so I closed the door again, heading to the bathroom.
A few minutes into my shower, I heard a small whimper, along with My Angel shuffling around in bed, "No... it wasn't just a dream, I know it. It was real."
Then she called out, “Sam?" and muttered, "Please God, let it have been real."
I leaned my forehead against the wall, promising, "I'm just getting my shower, Sweetheart. Everything's okay. I'll be there in just a minute."
I heard her let a breath out, so I rushed to finish my shower and dry off. As I walked into the room, she threw herself at me in her chemise. I just barely caught her. I cooed to her as she trembled against me, "I'm here, Isabella. I'm here, we're real. You and me, Angel."
She whimpered, "You weren't here when I woke. I... I thought maybe the last 48 hours was a dream, and I didn't want it to be."
I held her tightly while whispering, "Not a dream, my mate. I'm here. I'll never leave you, Isabella. I swear. You weren't dreaming us; it's real."
She calmed, then I noticed Charlie watching from the doorway. He mouthed, 'She okay?' so I nodded slightly. He knocked for her benefit, then said, "Morning, Bells. You alright? I brought you some tea, just how you like it."
She turned in my arms, wiped her face, then tried to smile, "Thanks, Dad. Just had a little scare, is all."
He nodded knowingly, "First time waking up without Sam since it all happened."
Bella's POV
He was really here, and it wasn't a dream. I repeated the words until I calmed, then heard a knock at the door. It was Charlie bringing me my favorite tea. I smiled when he recognized that I hadn't woken without Sam since he imprinted on me, "Yeah. I've kind of gotten used to him being here holding me when I wake."
Charlie smiled, "Have you two talked about Sam living in the new house?"
I shook my head as Sam said, "Still in the works, but once we talk out a few things, it'll all be good."
I smiled up at him, so he said, "I need to ask Paul if he's still interested in my place, then we need to go through everything to see if you want any of the furniture for your house. As for whether or not I'll move in with you, I already told Charlie I would in a heartbeat, as soon as you were ready."
Charlie nodded in agreement, causing me to blow out a breath in relief, "Well, I guess that's settled then. I wasn't sure you'd want to so soon."
He kissed my lips lightly, "There's no soon or late when it comes to imprints and soul mates, Isabella. There's only when you feel ready."
I thought about that for a second, realized he was right, then decided aloud, "No more thinking about what other people would say. I need to stop doing that. From now on, I'm going with how I feel, and screw what all of the busy-bodies think."
Charlie laughed, "That's the ticket. Just make sure what you do makes you happy, Bells. That's all that matters."
I took a few sips from my tea before asking, "When is Dr. Gerandy supposed to be here?"
Charlie said, "You have enough time for a shower if you want. Just make sure you're under a blanket when he gets here."
I nodded, "M'kay. Sam, can you get out today's clothes for me while I get my shower?"
He kissed my shoulder, "Sure, Angel. I'll lay them on the bathroom counter for you. You go ahead and get in."
Charlie kissed my forehead, "Go on, Princess. Doc will be here soon."
I kissed Sam lightly on the lips, then patted Charlie's shoulder on the way out the door.
I could hear them whispering, but I couldn't tell what it was about. I just hoped nothing was wrong. I got the water heated before stepping in, loving the feel of the heat against my skin. I sighed in content as I touch-up shaved, then started to wash my body.
Just as soon as I got all soapy, I heard a groan from the other side of the clear curtain, then noticed Sam watching me from my peripheral vision. I turned to tip my head back into the water, which pushed my breasts out some, causing Sam to moan, "Such as temptress you are. God, I wish we had time; I'd be in there with you in a heartbeat."
I whispered, knowing he'd hear me, "Too bad for you. Looks like I'll be taking care of myself this morning."
He growled as my hands slipped down over my breasts, "Isabella. Not now... please. Not like this."
I sighed and finished rinsing, then shut the water off, saying, "Fine, party pooper. I'm done."
He let out a sigh, then lifted me out of the tub after wrapping the towel around me, "I'm sorry, Beautiful. It's just that the doc is supposed to be here in a few, and I really want to watch you make yourself cum. I wouldn't have been able to if you did it now, since I'm not supposed to be in here when the doc arrives."
I kissed him softly, "I know. I'm sorry for teasing. I never really intended to right now, anyway. I'd rather us be able to take our time… watch each other when that happens. Now go, so Dr. Gerandy doesn't catch you in here and question Charlie's sanity."
He ducked out the door after placing a kiss on my mark. I hurried to dry off and dress. I brushed my hair, putting it up in a ponytail after I dressed in the outfit Sam had picked, then called for him since I was done.
He smiled as he picked me up to carry me down to the living room. He settled me on the couch, placed my blanket over me, then sat down next to me. I took his hand, then said, "I'd be curled up against you, but Dr. Gerandy's going to want an accurate temp reading."
He smiled, "I know, Angel. I'll hold you all you want as soon as the doc is done."
As soon as he finished saying that, the doorbell rang. Charlie got up to answer it. I smiled as Dr. Gerandy knelt next to me, "Morning, Doc. Here to free me, I hope?"
He smiled, "That's what I'm here to find out, Bella. Shall we?"
I nodded, so he started taking my blood pressure as he asked Charlie, "Did she adhere to the bed rest, Chief?"
Charlie chuckled, "Doc, the only time she was on her own two feet was when she was let down in front of the bathroom. Other than that, she was carried from her bed to either the couch or the kitchen table in her blanket."
Dr. Gerandy smiled, "Wow. I thought we'd have problems like last time. Very good, Bella. Your BP is perfect, now let's see about that temp. It was quite low from being out in the rain for so long."
He placed the thermometer in my mouth, then asked Charlie, "Boxes? Is everything alright, Chief?"
Charlie beamed at me, then said, "Yep, everything's perfect. Bella and I bought a house in La Push. My 20 years was up not too long ago at the station, so I retired. Henry's taking over."
Dr. Gerandy whistled low, saying, "Wow... never thought I'd see the day. When are you heading out?"
The thermometer beeped, so I said, "As soon as you give me the all-clear. All the packing is done, but we won't make the move while I'm stuck under blankets and stationary."
He nodded as he looked at the reading. "A little high, but not fever level. It's only 99.2, so I'm not worried. With your wet hair, it might well have something to do with your bath. Have you developed any symptoms since the other night? Any sneezing, coughing, aches, or other things out of your norm?"
I shook my head, "Nope, I've been warm and toasty in my blanket, resting easily."
He smiled, "Good. I still want you to take it easy for a few days. Do you have people to help you move?"
I nodded, "Several people. I didn't even have to get off my bed for the packing to be done."
Doc laughed, "I wish I could be that lucky. Alright... I'm going to let you off bed rest with the understanding that you will take it easy. By that, I mean that you let others do most of the work moving, and you rest as much as possible. Should I transfer your records to Dr. Young on the reservation?"
I looked at Charlie in question. He smiled widely, so I said, "Yes, please. It will be a lot closer to see her on the rez than go all the way to the hospital from the new house."
He smiled, patting my blanket-covered knee while offering, "Sure, Bella. I'll fax a copy to her as soon as I get to the hospital and make notations on this morning's visit. You be sure to let her know if anything happens. Also, make an appointment with her to do another check-up soon."
He looked at Charlie, shook his hand, then said, "Don't be a stranger, Chief. We're going to miss you around here."
I looked at Sam as Charlie led Dr. Gerandy out, whispering softly, "Dr. Young? Isn't she the one who got mauled by that bear?"
Sam nodded sadly, then breathed in my ear, "Yeah... I just happened to pass by while I was patrolling. Luckily, I was able to save her. She knows, and has become the pack doctor. She takes care of the imprints, too. She's one of the docs for the rez, but she's mainly the doc for the pack and their imprints. I was going to suggest you see her soon. Since you're ovulating, it would be good to talk to her… see if there's anything you should or shouldn't do... since we're planning on starting our family."
I beamed at him, "Can you call to see when she'll be available? I'm sure I should be on vitamins or something."
He nodded, "As soon as we're clear, I'll make the call, letting her know Dr. Gerandy is faxing your records over. Maybe she can stop by the new house tonight to see us."
Charlie came back in a few minutes later, tugged at my blanket, then said, "You haven't gotten rid of that pain-in-the-ass thing yet?"
I shrugged, "We were talking about Dr. Young, and seeing when she could come out to the new house to look me over."
Charlie agreed, "It's a good idea, Bells. She might want you to up your calorie intake or put you on some kind of booster. You're awful tiny compared to Sam, Princess."
I nodded sadly, "I was going to gain some of the weight back, or try to, but things just felt right. I may still have the time to do it beforehand. We'll have to wait and see, I guess."
Sam kissed my neck, "Let me try calling her now, Sweetheart."
Bella's POV
