Chapter 40: Monkeys and Energy Transfers

BPOV:

A few minutes later, I heard Charlie say he was hungry. I grabbed his hand, led him inside, sat him at the bar in the kitchen, then got to work.

Tanya and Alice asked what they could help with, so I told them, "I'm going to make Grandma Swan's monkey bread, plus breakfast skillets with eggs, the strip beef, ham, sweet peppers, onions, diced potatoes, cheese, mushrooms, bacon, and sausage. Call out to make sure the elders don't leave to go get breakfast before training, because I'm making enough for everyone... the first round of wolves, too."

Kate ducked out the back door to make sure the elders didn't leave and the first round of wolves knew I was making enough. Alice and Tanya were whipping out the ingredients I needed for breakfast.

Alice looked confused for a second, then a bit scared, asking cautiously, "Bella? The monkey bread... what's in that? We didn't buy any monkeys to make bread. Is that even legal?"

Charlie and I both busted out laughing, then I hugged Alice to me, "Alice, no monkeys needed, Honey. It's just called monkey bread. Monkeys don't make it, and there are no monkey bits in the ingredients. We need all of the biscuits in the fridge, sugar, cinnamon, ground cloves, orange zest, the Amaretto we got at the liquor store, the sticks of butter, and light brown sugar. Kate, can you multiply the recipe for me, then get the pans out and greased, please?"

She nodded enthusiastically, so I set out to start cracking and mixing the eggs.

Alice helped Tanya chop and dice the ingredients for the skillet with vampire speed, causing Charlie to chuckle, "Wow, you guys are so fast, it's all a blur."

I smirked at him with a nod. Pointing at their blurring movements, I said seriously, "That... right there... is one of the major reasons I want you safe on the rez.”

His eyes got wide at my inclination, so I nodded seriously. "I'll never go against what you think is best, Bells. Like I said earlier... just tell me what's going on, so I know. Don't leave me out of the loop."

I whisked as I kissed his forehead. "You won't be out of the loop from now on, Dad. Promise."

I felt like singing, so I sent the feeling to Jasper, mouthing, "Evanescence."

He smiled widely as Peter whispered, "This is the first time the elders and Charlie will see this."

They snuck out back to get the elders. I noticed my vampire family slowly trickling closer to the kitchen, then Charlie looked at me curiously. "It's something you have to see and feel to believe. Jasper will project if you want to feel it. Just wait and see."

I heard 'Bring Me To Life' start, so I jumped right in as I switched with Alice, fluidly handing her the eggs as I started opening the biscuits to prepare the monkey bread. I felt everyone's attention on me, but I kept singing and jamming out while getting the monkey bread ready.

My energy was slowly but steadily rising. I heard the elders whisper to Jasper, "Is that really happening?"

Jasper smiled widely, "Yep... happens all the time like this. The energy of the song transfers to her as she sings. If it's a strong vocal, she feels energized, a sensual one makes her feel sensual. Awesome, isn't it? Just wait until she gets 4 or 5 songs into it."

The song changed, 'Cloud Nine' started playing. He put it on random... cool. I started singing it as I continued with what I was doing. I danced the first batch to the oven, then went back to prepare the second batch, kissing Peter's shoulder on my way back through the throng of people stuffed into the kitchen. This song was a good energy builder for me. I peeked at the elders and Charlie during the song.

All of them had their eyes closed, just soaking it all in. I kept going, knowing there would be questions, but they wouldn't ask until I was ready to stop. 'Taking Over Me' came on next. Everyone felt the difference in my energy level by now. I was kicking ass on these songs, and I felt ready for anything.

Everyone in the room was speechless. My voice rocked this morning, so I knew they were all staring. 'The Only One' came on as I finished preparing the last batch of monkey bread. I nailed the shit out of the high vocals. I was completely in my element, dancing around the kitchen as I took over the skillet making from Alice with a kiss to the top of her head. She kissed my shoulder, then happily went to stand next to Edward. He was smiling brightly at me, so I winked at them.

'Tourniquet' came on as I finished the last of the skillet mix, pouring it into three huge casserole dishes. I pulled out the rest of the oranges as well as the juicer, making sure the pulp level was set to low. I juiced three different types into the mix I was making, then the last song came on. It was 'Lacrymosa'.

By the time it was done, I had danced all the food onto plates, lining them up on the long kitchen bar. I handed Charlie's to him with a kiss to his forehead in between lines. He smiled brightly to me in return. I handed the elders their plates, then as the song ended, I took a breath to say, "Charlie, you'll want to step far away from the bar, as will everyone not wanting to get run over."

Then I took a deep breath before belting out for the pack to come and get it.

It was like a madhouse until everyone got plates, then dashed outside to sit on the logs from earlier. Charlie looked at me wide-eyed, so I said, "They should see the grocery bills. Those boys work up an appetite, that's for damn sure. As a snack, they each had 3 sandwiches, a full large bag of chips, as well as a two liter of Pepsi. Snack, Dad. Snack. The rest of this will be gone before they are ready to stop eating, so if you guys want any more of anything, let me dish it now. Otherwise there won't be any left when you're ready. Pack of wolves? Yeah, that's my brothers and sisters."

Everyone laughed, then Old Quil asked, "Is it just when you hear them, or do you have to sing them?"

I shrugged my shoulders, "I really couldn't tell you for sure, but I think I have to sing. I think it has something to do with the controlled breathing the singing makes me have. Crazy, right?"

He replied, "Not at all, Young One. Air is energy in its purest form, as are the other elements. We should try to see if just controlled breathing has the same effect. Is Air out for today still?"

I shook my head, "We can do Air today. Charlie understands the whole thing. I explained it."

I looked to Edward and Alice, asking, "Alice, if I send you an image, do you think you could recognise which field I was thinking about training in? It's the one where the battle will be held."

She told me to give it a shot. I closed my eyes, concentrating on the field of my vision... one of the ones I just put protection on. It was at the base of the mountain, a stream or waterfall very close by. I tried to send the picture to Alice, whispering as I did so, 'Battlefield'.

I knew when she got it, because both her and Edward gasped. Their eyes shot open, but Edward was first to respond. "Is that what it looked like in your vision? The exact one? If so it will give us a great advantage."

I nodded, causing Jasper and Peter to perk up. Edward continued, "She wants us to train at the base of the mountain 6 miles away. The field is the one we meet at after hunting. The safe field."

Everyone's eyes lit up, so I said, "I knew this was the battlefield, and I didn't want Victoria or her lackies getting the lay of the land. When I put the protection on it, I made it go 5 miles in each direction from the edge of the field. The trees will cover most of the five miles, but I made sure the peak of the mountain was in our range. They’re shit out of luck trying to get anywhere near that field, or even trying to see anything happening there from the mountain top. I rock, guys. Face it."

Jasper and Peter whisked me off the floor to surround me in a hug. They both placed several kisses on my shoulders, then Jasper said, "You are truly my match in every way. I was trying to figure out how to find a way for them not to spy on any field near here. Peter and I have been racking our brains since the peace was made. We didn't want the elders in any danger while we were training. You are utterly amazing, Darlin'. Oh. Oh! She did it! Peter, the property line is over a mile out. We can take the elders through the spot where the protections overlap. No danger!"

I smiled widely, then smirked, "You thought I wouldn't think of that, didn't you? I rocked that shit, Cowboy. The path inside the area protected is wide enough that we could all stand side by side, with the pack in wolf form, yet still not touch the edges of the protection. I'm the bomb, Baby."

Everyone laughed, but as it sank in, Carlisle asked, "How?"

I smiled softly as I pulled out the map and the protractor. I did the five mile radius around the outside of the field, then did the property line. I showed him the wide area at the center of the overlap. "That's how. That is the overlap of the two protected spaces. We have full coverage from here to there, and no one can get anywhere near the field until the battle when I pull the protection from the field. There can be no protection of any kind on the field the night of the battle, or the battle won't happen there. It needs to happen there. I got a sense of victory on the field in the vision. It must happen there."

I pointed to the field on the map to make my point. I saw just how far my protection went for covering the mountain, and giggled, "Damn, I did do good. Most of the mountain is protected... even on the other side of the peak. I didn't realise the five mile radius went that far over the peak. Is that still a safe distance for everyone to cover if I get an alarm?"

Edward smiled, patting my back gently. "Don't worry. We know that mountain like the backs of our own hands. It's an easy cover. You did really well, Bella. It gives us a safe range to hunt in, too, which saves some hassle. We'll still go in groups, but we we'll be able to hunt inside the protection with less worry. We'll make sure we stay inside that zone."

Jasper had everyone take a good look at the zone covered, making sure that everyone knew not to hunt outside the area for now. While he was doing that, Peter curled his arms around me from behind. "You're itchin' to get started, huh, Kitten?"

I leaned back into him, so he tightened his arms around me even more. "I just have all of this energy from singing. I want to put it to good use. I'm learning a lot from the elders, but it just seems like I'm not learning fast enough, you know? I know I have limits right now on what I can do, and I don't want to know what happens if they're crossed. I just want to learn all I can before it's too late. We have almost no time to train as it is."

He kissed my neck and nipped playfully. "Calm down, Sug. The elders are teachin' ya as fast as they feel is safe. Your episodes have hindered the progress slightly, but not as much as ya may think. The kick-ass goddess mojo ya did earlier is a huge bonus to our side. Now Jasper, Char, and I can feel much safer while we train the pack and the family. We've not been able to completely concentrate, for fear of attack. Now that they can't get to us, we can feel safer as we train them. It's all good, Kitten. You'll see."

Sue came up to hug me, "You have an amazing voice, Bella. You captivate everyone in your presence when you sing. I hope to hear it again some time."

I smiled. "I sing a lot. I'm sure you'll hear it again soon. Are the others almost ready?"

She laughed, "I bet with all the energy flowing through you now, you're ready to let loose."

I laughed and agreed, then she said they would be ready in a few minutes. The terrain wasn't set for our vehicles, so Carlisle and Emmett were pulling out the four wheelers, making sure they were gassed up. I nodded, then said I was going up to change.

I knocked on Rose's bedroom door. She let me in right away. She was already pulling out one of the lounge sets for me. I thanked her, asking if she would mind putting my hair up for me. She agreed immediately, then asked what I wanted done with it. I told her something easy that wouldn't get tangled up in the wind today, something that didn't cover my elements.

She got out ponytail holders for my hair. I noticed they were all jade green, silver, red, and carribean blue. I smiled. She split my hair down the middle, then started pulling section after section down my head into the holders. She made them snug, but not too tight, which I appreciated. When she was done, it almost looked like two french braids, but not braided. Each ponytail was brought into the next section, then wrapped in the next holder together. She stopped the holders about 6 inches from the bottom of my hair. It looked nice, but not fancy.

"Perfect. Now what did you pull for me to wear today?" She smiled brightly, handing me the clothes. She had picked a multicolored elbow-length sleeved soft top that only had a tie at the top of my shoulders, then one at my tailbone. She also had a gaucho pair for me to wear. They were soft like my other ones, fitting snugly at the top to show off my perfect ass.

When I walked out of the bathroom and turned to look in the mirror, she said, "If I were Char, I'd do you too, Bella. Jesus, you're perfect."

I giggled. "Jasper and Peter make comments about my ass being lickable and biteable all the time. Char's bitten it once or twice, too, but they never break the skin."

Rose laughed, "I don't blame them... just wait until you're a vampire, and don't have that worry about how the venom will affect you. You'll have three bite scars on your ass before you hit the 24 hour mark of being a vampire. I guarantee it. Love bites are a good thing, Hun."

That got me to thinking, so I whispered softly, "Is it normal for a vampire to be able to make their mate cum just from a love bite?"

Her eyes went wide, "You mean... they can...you?"

I blushed with a nod. "They don't even have to touch me... just bite and lick the indentations."

She dropped onto the bed, eyes even wider than before, then whooshed out, "Shit, that's amazing, Bella. It's not normal, but I've heard of it happening on rare occasions. All the time?"

I nodded, "All the time. Anywhere."

She shook her head in amazement. "Rose... close your mouth, Hun. You're gonna catch flies."

We giggled together as I grabbed the other clothes up to take down to the wash. I told the wolves that when we came back for lunch, I wanted their dirty clothes in on the washer, so I could get them done. They nodded their wolfy heads, then I looked for Charlie. There wasn't enough room on the four wheelers for Sue and Charlie, so I suggested, "Why don't you ride Jake over, Dad? I ride wolfback all the time. Or if you don't want to ride alone, ride Embry, while I ride Jake."

I looked at my mates, asking , "You don't mind, do you?"

Peter said, "Not at all. Jake is still jumpin' for your promised ride anyway. It'll make ya both feel good for ya to ride on his back again. Go for it, Kitten."

I called Jake over, pointed down for him to lay, then mounted him.

I grabbed the fur of his neck, then said, "Embry get your fuzzy ass over here. Dad needs a ride to the field."

Embry crawled close to Charlie, laying flat for Dad to mount. "Dad, get a good hold on the hair at his neck. If you can ride a horse bareback, you can wolfback ride. Same thing.”

Jake barked a laugh, so I said, "Oh, shut up, Jake! This is his first time. I had to put it in terms he could understand. Watch it, or I'll pull your ear."

Soon we were ready to go. I warned Charlie to hold on tight, that the wolves were extremely fast. Once he got the hang of how fast Embry ran, he did really well. I was having a blast on Jake, so I hugged around his neck, "I missed this, Jake. I missed our wolf rides and time together. I promise to try harder, but give me a little leeway with everything going on if I slip up."

He nodded his wolfy head; I hugged tighter to him for a second.

I sat back up, saw my mates running next to us, and smiled widely. They smiled back. We were at the field in no time. Jake went down on his belly, so I dismounted. I kissed Jake's nose, so he licked my ankle.

I went to Embry just as he was going down on his belly to let Charlie off. I scratched behind his ear, asking loud enough for Charlie to hear, "Thanks, Embry. Did he give you too much trouble, or can he ride back with you, too?"

Embry barked a laugh, so Edward filled in the blanks, "He says your Dad can ride wolfback with him anytime. He wasn't any trouble at all, once he stopped flopping around like a fish out of water."

Charlie gaped. Oh, shit... I forgot.

"Ummm... Dad? I forgot to mention that Edward can read minds. He can't read mine, though, because of my shield. That's how he knows what Embry was thinking. He's our translation king while the pack is in wolf form."

Charlie must have been thinking something about while Edward and I were dating, because Edward laughed, "Don't worry, Sir. Nothing that you said was ever that bad, and no, you never shot me in your imagination. Came close once or twice, but you always stopped before it came to that. There were times when I thought it would be funny if you tried, though. Sorry."

Charlie gasped, "Jesus, Kid. That's gonna take some getting used to. Just... I don't know... give me a while to acclimate with all of this. Does anyone else have mojo that I don't know about?"

I smiled then called out, "Okay, we might as well get the power talk out of the way for everyone now. Line up, then I’ll state your name and power, if you have one, for Charlie. We already know Edward reads minds and Alice is a seer, Emmett here doesn't really have a power, per say, but he's mondo strong... right Brother Bear?"

He smiled then smirked, "I bet I could take you once you vamp up, Little Sis."

Alice and Peter both snorted, then Peter said, "Not likely. She'll whip your ass with all her powers tied behind her back... and a leg and arm, too."

Alice giggled and agreed with Peter.

"Next we have Rose, Esme, and Carlisle. While not truly powers, Rose is fiercely protective of those she cares for, Esme's mothering nature is always needed, and Carlisle's compassion for humanity and self-control are what has led to him not tasting a drop of human blood since he was bitten and turned. That's it for the Cullens. Jasper is an empath, Peter is a know-it-all, and Char's just the sweetest thing since peach cobbler. As for the Denalis, please state if you have a power when I call you. This is Eleazar and his mate Carmen. They are the leaders of the Denali coven from Alaska. They're veggie vampires like my Cullens. I used to joke with Edward and call them vegetarians, because they went against the grain by not hunting humans."

Everyone laughed, including the elders, then Eleazar spoke up, "Very nice, Young Goddess. I'll have to remember that one. I have the gift of sensing the powers and talents of others, even before they are turned. It is part of the reason I'm here. I will be able to detect the enemy talents when we go into battle. It will help keep your daughter safe to fulfill her complete destiny, Chief Swan. You, Bella, will be absolutely extraordinary as a vampire. I'll not tell anything until you have turned though. No peeking," he pointed at Edward and Alice. They both rolled their eyes.

Carmen smiled, "I do not have any powers, so to speak, but I am fluent in several different dead languages, along with several times more living languages. I can help translate for rites the goddess wishes to do if she can't seem to get the wording on her own, or know what an enemy is saying if she doesn't understand."

I nodded, "Thank you, Carmen. I have a feeling I'll end up taking you up on that offer.”

I smiled as I got to the sisters. “Finally, we have Tanya and Kate. They are sisters, and were turned together from what I hear. Do either of you have powers?"

Tanya smiled softly, "The three of us were turned together, yes. I am what you call a succubus. I'm not as most legends say, though. No demons, no preying on men to sustain myself. I just prefer my partners to be human men... and I like to be intimate... a lot. Irina was one as well before she passed."

Tanya looked sad for a second before she continued, "If you count that as a power, then I have one. On the other hand, Kate has the ability to shock people. It's like an electric current runs under her skin."

Charlie, being Charlie, said, "Thank you for your time. May I ask what happened to your sister? Irina, right?"

I gave Charlie a look, but Kate offered, "When we first came to this house the other night, a warning alarm went off in the goddess, sensing a threat to her and her mates... "

I placed my hand on her cheek, "Kate, you and Tanya do not have to tell him. It is still too new for you to have to explain. I can tell him at a later time."

They both shook their heads, then Kate said, "It's alright, Goddess. We have both come to terms with what happened, during the time and space that you allowed us. The only blame sat on Irina's shoulders. Please, don't let yourself feel guilty for what had to be done. Everyone was warned clearly, more than once, and she chose her path."

I nodded, knowing somewhere deep inside that they needed to do this, then she continued, "The goddess sensed a threat to her and her mates when we first arrived. She told us clearly that anyone who meant her or her mates harm would die instantly. None that threatened them would be left alive to try again. She tested our intentions by having us touch and try to pass through her shield. If our intentions were pure, if we meant no harm, we would pass through the shield as if it wasn't there. If we had harmful intentions, the person would not be able to penetrate the shield, and they would suffer the Goddess' punishment. The rest of the Denali coven and all of the Cullen coven passed easily through her shield, but Irina was unable to breach. She hissed and spat at her, blaming the goddess for the loss of what she thought was her mate. He was not Irina's mate, but was working with Victoria. The goddess killed him less than 24 hours prior to our first meeting, as he had found them at a gas station on their way here from Texas. He was not going to report back to Victoria. He wanted the goddess' blood for his own, and intended to kill her mates to get to her.”

Charlie had wide eyes. He looked scared, so Kate continued, knowing he needed to know the rest. “He had claimed to us that he wished to not be a part of what Victoria was up to... that he just wished for a peaceful existence. He claimed to try and change his diet, but when the goddess ended him, he had fed on several humans. She did what she had to, to keep herself and her mates safe from harm both times. None of us blame her. My sister betrayed her own coven -her own sisters- to wage a vendetta against the goddess, but none of us knew. I would want to be on no one else's side when this battle wages. The goddess -your daughter- has truth and a better way of life for all supernaturals on her side. I would like to be one of the lucky few that gets to help her along her journey. All of us would do anything we could for her. What my sister did was deplorable, unbecoming of a Denali. We hold nothing against the goddess."

I was tearing up by this time, so I threw myself at both Tanya and Kate. They caught and held onto me easily, shushing me, telling me not to worry. I knew that the story had taken a lot of energy out of both of them. I wanted to repay them for sticking with me through this.

I got a brilliant idea, and asked them if they would allow me to gift them. They both agreed, but said there was no need. I placed one of my hands on each of their abdomens, then searched for their energy centers. Tanya's felt like a sensual yet dirty dance, while Kate's felt like electricity.

I closed my eyes, concentrated for me to be at normal level, then released the extra energy from my singing earlier into them.

I heard them gasp when I opened my eyes. I smiled in response. I hugged them tight to me, whispering, "You deserve the energy I just gave you. Don't worry about me, I gave you the excess I gained from singing this morning. You deserve it, though. You stuck with me after the disaster that first night, which deserves to be recognised. Thank you."

They both kissed my cheeks, then they went off to Eleazar and Carmen.
