New Love, New Life

Chapter 6
Grabbing a book off the shelf in her room, she noticed it wasn’t one of hers. In the front was a note in unfamiliar writing, but the endearment which began the note brought a smile to her face.
Agapiménos,
I thought perhaps you would enjoy reading something different. Your books appear to be well read. This is one of my favorites.
Yours,
Demetri
Settling on the couch, she soon found herself immersed in the tale of Louis and Lestat. She was finding the book to be much better than the movie she’d watched with her mother several years ago. She was so engrossed, a knock on her door startled her, causing her to look up as Jane and Heidi came in.
“Hey, Bella. We’ve come to take you to dinner.”
“Oh?”
“Yes, and maybe shopping?” Heidi suggested.
“I’ve never really been much for shopping, but if you guys want to take me to eat, I’d be happy to go.”
The two vampires nodded. Once Bella was dressed and ready, the trio took off, Felix and Alec following at a safe distance for added protection.
“What are you in the mood for, Bella?”
Bella thought for a minute. If she was going to be a vampire soon, there were some things she wanted to do. “I want a burger and a place where I can get a drink.”
Jane and Heidi smiled, and headed for a restaurant which had outdoor seating for them and was the perfect location for what Bella wanted; L'Hamburgheria di Volterra.
The three women laughed and drank until the place closed down. Bella was well and truly drunk when they made their way back to the palace. She was barely hanging on to Felix’s back as he carried her to her room. He had a feeling when Demetri got word of what happened, he would be pissed.

Bella groaned and rolled over in her bed. She felt as if there was a jackhammer in her head. “Ugh...what the hell?” she whispered to what she thought was her empty room.
“Tough night, Piccola?”
Bella’s eyes snapped open and she came face to face with the three kings. She wasn’t sure when she began to see them as family, but she did, especially Caius, whom she saw as a father figure. “Mi dispiace, padre, zio Marcus, zio Aro.” (I'm sorry, Father, Uncle Marcus, Uncle Aro.)
Caius stepped toward the young woman who had become like a daughter to him. It warmed his dead heart to hear her call him father. “Mia figlia, one night of fun is not a problem and we know that. Heidi and Jane, however, let you overdo it.”
Bella sat up in her bed and stared at the three of them. “Please don’t do anything to them.”
“Bambina, they aren’t in trouble from us.” Aro started.
“But when Demetri gets back, we can’t guarantee that.” Marcus finished.
Bella nodded. “When is he expected?”
“We don’t know, Tesoro.”
The brothers left her alone to her thoughts. Rising from her bed, Bella went to the bathroom and started the shower. Stripping off her clothes, she stepped under the hot spray allowing the water to wash away her hangover. Once she was dressed and ready to face the day she walked out to her sitting room and found Felix waiting with her breakfast.
“Hey,” she smiled softly.
“You okay, little one?”
“I’m fine, Felix.” She picked at her food, “I think I’m gonna stay in today. Would you let everyone know?”
“Sure thing,” Felix looked at her in concern before leaving her room. Demetri needed to get back, and soon.
Once she was left alone, Bella decided part of her melancholy came from missing home and picked up her cell phone to call her dad. Looking at the time, she did some quick counting and figured he was at the station, so that’s where she called.
“Forks Police Department, how can I help you?”
“Chief Swan, please.”
She was placed on hold and then her father’s voice came over the line.
“This is Chief Swan.”
“Hi, Daddy.”
“Bells? How are you?”
“I’m good. It’s so beautiful here.” She went on to describe the few things she’d seen, making them up on the fly and told him about her drunken night the previous night.
“You’re too young to drink, Bella.”
“Not in Italy.”
“Just be careful, Bells. I don’t want someone to take advantage of you in that state.”
“I promise.”
“I’ve got to go now, there’s a call coming in. Take care of yourself and call again soon.”
Bella smiled, “I will. Love you, Dad.”
“Love you too, kid.” The line disconnected and Bella lay down on her bed, glad she’d spoken to her father, which had helped ease the homesickness, but didn’t ease the loneliness. She wished Demetri were there. She was anxious to get to know her mate.

Demetri was livid. There was no reason why he was still in the Congo dealing with the newborn bullshit. Unfortunately the problem was larger than they were aware of. They had already dispatched the sire of these newborns, but since they were left to run unchecked, some had created their own, which was also against the law. No new changeling was allowed to sire anyone in their first year of rebirth. However, without someone to teach them, they were all unaware.
“Goddammit! Santiago, go get that one.” Demetri removed the head from the infant he was holding as another came at him from the side.
When he was finished, the pyre billowed purple smoke into the air. He had just sent the rest of his guard to make sure there were no more as his cellphone rang.
“Yes?”
“Are you about done, Demetri?” Aro’s voice greeted him.
“I believe so, Master Aro.”
“Excellent, your mate awaits you and the Cullens have finally responded to the summons.”
“I trust they are staying away from her?”
“They haven’t seen her yet, she’s been staying in her room.” Aro informed him.
“No problems then?”
“There was one small incident, but we decided to let you handle it.”
Demetri growled and hung up his phone. “Santiago, let’s go!”
